Chapter 2 - Rhaenys II

Eventually, the figure turned around. Under his hood, his face was shadowed, but she saw purple, slitted cat eyes that glowed slightly. She gasped, "Are you truly a demon?"

In response, he chuckled. It was gravelly, like two boulders grinding together. He continued to loot the bodies for coins. Rhaenys, curious, told him, "If it's coin you're after, my father is the King. He can pay you richly, especially after you saved his daughter and his closest friend."

Arthur, who was talking to the remaining Targaryen men who had finally caught up, was quite upset at this. His reply was, "Princess, we cannot bring this monster back with us. He is clearly not human."

The figure then interjected, "I would not come anyway. I accepted this job from the local village; they had been attacked by this group of bandits as well. I do not receive double payments; it is against the code."

Rhaenys then told the figure, "Well, my gold will be for my escort back to the Red Keep, and for saving me now, good Ser."

The figure growled in response, "I'm not a knight."

"For now," smirked Rhaenys. "Come along then, Sers."

The figure said, "I did not agree to come."

"Consider it an order from your princess then."

As she walked ahead, the men finally caught up to her. She got back in the carriage, and they started their way down the road.

"So what exactly are you?" she asked him. He had finally taken his hood off. He was young, perhaps even younger than her: eighteen or nineteen. He had black hair with white running through it.

He grunted, "Witcher."

Rhaenys was extremely curious now. "What is a Witcher?"

The figure growled again. "A magically mutated monster slayer, from a land far away. No more questions."

Rhaenys continued to try and pry, but the Witcher ignored her.

Eventually, later that day, they finally reached King's Landing. The Witcher told Rhaenys, "We have reached King's Landing. Give me my gold."

Rhaenys smirked back at him in reply, "I believe I said the Red Keep, not King's Landing."

The figure growled but said nothing.

As the procession moved toward the gates, the Gold Cloaks panicked seeing the beleaguered force. Ser Arthur managed to calm them down, riding ahead to announce her presence. Eventually, they reached the Red Keep; many more Targaryen men came out to meet them.

"Gold now," the Witcher stated.

The Targaryen men surrounded him at Rhaenys's order. "You will get your gold, but first I want you to meet the King. Don't make me insist."

Ser Arthur ordered, "Hand over your weapons."

The figure growled, "No."

Arthur was unnerved; he knew the figure could use magic, and even without magic, he could still slay many of them before they could kill him. As such he decided it was not worth it and lead him into the Red Keep.
