———————————————————

Teio blinked.

Her eyes felt… heavy, as if sleep clung to them like cobwebs. She expected the warm sun, the cheerful clatter of shoes on pavement, the lively shouts of morning practice at Tracen Academy.

But instead…

Silence.

A thick, suffocating silence.

She stood in the middle of the academy courtyard. The familiar school flag flapped weakly, but the colors were drained, as though the world had been washed in gray filth and left to rot. The sky above was a bruised violet, swirling like stormwater down a drain.

"…Hello?"

No voice came out.

Her throat worked, but sound refused to form. Panic crept up her spine. Breathing quickened, hooves trembling slightly on cracked pavement.

Why can't I speak?

Tokai Teio stepped forward. Every footfall echoed unnaturally loud, crisp, as though the world itself had emptied of everything except her.

"Trainer? McQueen?"

"Anyone…?"

Still nothing.

Her heartbeat hammered painfully. This wasn't the Tracen she knew. It felt wrong. Dead.

She hugged her arms around herself. 'Maybe it's a dream. Maybe-'

A soft, wet dragging sound sliced through the quiet.

scrape… drag… scrape…

Teio froze.

The noise came from behind her… slow, uneven, like someone pulling something heavy across the courtyard stone. Goosebumps crawled up her neck. She turned, throat dry, heart in her ears

And saw herself.

Tokai Teio… but not.

The figure stood slouched, feet leaving streaks of dark crimson on the ground. Its uniform was soaked in dried blood, torn where jagged bone protruded unnaturally from shoulder and ribs. One eye dangled, twitching. The other stared at her, hollow, predatory, smiling with teeth far too sharp.

Her hair, once bright and bouncy, was matted and hanging like wet rope. Flesh split open across its face like a grin carved too wide.

A grotesque imitation.

Teio stumbled back. Her legs trembled. She wanted to scream, she tried, but silence choked her instead.

The broken Teio tilted its head in a painfully slow motion, like a puppet learning curiosity for the first time.

Then

It smiled wider.

"R̸u̴n̷,̶ T̵e̶ i̵o̸.̶"

The voice was warped, distorted like a vinyl dragged across rusted metal. The words scratched themselves into her skull more than they echoed through air.

"L̶e̷t̴'̶s̶ p̸ l̷a̴ y̶.̵"

The thing lunged.

And Teio ran, shoes pounding against the ground, fleeing through the lifeless academy.

Her hooves slammed against the courtyard floor, breath ragged, eyes wide with terror as she sprinted between dead cherry trees and crumbling stone paths. The sound of the other Teio's steps stalked closely behind her.

BEEP

A rectangular panel flashed into existence beside her, floating like a hologram made of glitching light. Teio skidded slightly, startled, but kept running.

It looked like… a game interface?

But she never played a game this horrifying.

◤STATUS INTERFACE ACTIVATED◢

TOKAI TEIO (Variant 07-B)

HP: 100/100

Ability 1 — Final Burst

Temporary burst of speed. Use to escape threats.

Cooldown: 15 seconds

Ability 2 — Champion's Dazzle

Emit a blinding shockwave to stun enemy briefly.

Cooldown: 30 seconds

Objective: SURVIVE

Time until Exit Ring spawns: 05:00

The countdown began immediately.

5:00… 4:59… 4:58…

Teio's chest tightened. 'Survive? Exit ring? Variant 07-B?'

What kind of nightmare labeled her like a character on a scoreboard?

Behind her, a chilling shriek tore through the fog

"D̶o̴n̸'̵t̵ r̶u̴n̷ f̴r̶o̷m̷ m̸e̴,̵ T̴e̵i̶o̷…"

It sounded hungry.

Teio's instincts screamed, use the ability! Her feet hit the ground hard.

ABILITY: FINAL BURST — ACTIVATED

A surge of energy exploded through her muscles, as if the dream of victory she once had ignited for just a second. The world blurred. Her speed doubled, wind whipping her mane violently. She shot down the cobblestone path like a comet, putting precious distance between her and the thing wearing her face.

The timer ticked.

4:31… 4:30…

Teio panted hard, darting past the training field. The running track was cracked and overgrown, hurdles twisted like metal bones. Trophy cases lay shattered, medals soaked in rust.

This place… once full of cheers and dreams…

Now felt like a graveyard.

A shadow flickered to her right.

Then movement.

The EXE Teio crawled out from beneath the bleachers, disjointed, skittering like a broken marionette.

Teio gasped mid-stride.

4:12…

She veered, feet scraping on cracked tile, heart hammering against her ribs. The monster laughed, glitching in and out of existence, appearing too close each time.

'Not yet, not yet, save the stun-'

She needed it later. She had to survive until 1:20.

She sprinted toward the dorm building doors.

Behind her:

thump… crack… SCRRRTCH

And the voice again, sweet like poison:

"W̶e'll w͟i͞n t͡o̵g̨e̵t͏he͝r̕, r͡i̡gh̨t̢,̷ T̛e҉i͏o͏?"

Teio's vision blurred with fear, breath sharp and painful.

She grabbed the dorm door, locked.

Her HP bar flickered as something slammed the ground behind her.

4:00…

She hit the ability instinctively

ABILITY READY: CHAMPION'S DAZZLE

A burst of white-blue shock flashed from her body.

The twisted Teio reeled back, eyes burning, limbs spasming in glitchy spasms, stunned for a moment.

Teio didn't hesitate. She leapt through a cracked side window, glass scraping her leg.

HP: 100 → 94

She hissed silently from the sting, landing inside the dim hallway. Dust floated like ash. Lockers dented, walls clawed, lights flickering weakly.

The timer pulsed again.

3:48… 3:47…

She pressed herself against the wall, chest rising and falling rapidly.

No voice.

No friends.

No cheering crowds.

Just her.

And that thing.

And the ticking clock.

At 1:20, a ring would appear. Her only escape.

Until then…

She had to survive

Teio crept through the dorm hallway, hooves clicking softly. Her breathing trembled; each inhale sounded painfully loud in the stale, dusty air.

2:42… 2:41…

Halfway. She had to stay alive. Just a little longer.

A faint, warped humming echoed from far behind her, playful and cruel.

"F͟i͟n͞i͢s̕h l̷i̛n̨es a͡re͞ fu̵n̛,͟ d͡o͘n'͏t͜ y̴o͡u̵ th͡i̵n҉k͟?"

Teio's chest seized. She ducked into a nearby dorm room, the door creaking open.

Scratch marks covered the walls.

A broken mirror reflected a warped silhouette behind her, her own… shaking, afraid.

And on the floor, a crushed student ID card:

"Kitasan Black."

Blood smear. footprints. Panic strikes the moment she sees it.

She covered her mouth, tears stinging. Her legs shook so violently she nearly collapsed. She wasn't a fighter. She was a racer! A girl who had dreams!

But this world didn't care.

2:02… 2:01…

She peeked into the hallway

Gone. Silence.

'Maybe… maybe I lost it-'

Suddenly, a massive black shadow distorted the hallway, stretching like tar spilling across walls.

Then it blinked.

And the EXE Teio was inches from her face.

It didn't run.

It teleported.

Teio froze. Too shocked, too late.

She tried to trigger Final Burst

ABILITY ON COOLDOWN — 04 seconds

The thing grabbed her jaw with an impossible force, claws digging into her cheek. Its single hanging eye dangled close, twitching eagerly.

Its smile widened.

She choked silently, hands trembling.

"D̷i̵d̴ y̛o̵u̴ t̷h̉i͂n͗k̍ s̽pͦẹėd̾ a̒l̽o͊n͊e̋ w͛o̿úl̔d̎ s̏a̎v͗ē y̱o͙ṳ?"

Her HP bar flickered above her vision.

It shoved her through the wall.

She hit the floor hard. Something cracked in her chest.

HP: 94 → 23

Her legs spasmed. Tears streamed silently as she clawed at the floor, scraping weakly toward the stairs, toward anywhere but here.

"P̵ l̷ e̸ a̸ s̶ e̶…"

But no voice came.

She had no voice in this world.

The monster walked slowly. Enjoying it.

Toying with her.

Teio reached toward the distant exit sign.

'Just a little… just-'

The EXE stomped down on her back.

HP: 23 → 0

Bones cracked. Breath stopped. Eyes widened, still begging, still hoping…

And then dulled.

The timer continued without her:

1:20… The ring appears.

Too late.

The entity leaned down, whispering to her lifeless ear

"Y̷o̴u̶ d̵i̵d̴n'̸t̸ e̷v̸e̴n̵ m̶a̴k̶e̵ i̴t̵ t̶o̵ t̵h̶e̴ s̸t̶a̵r̶t̵i̴n̸g̵ b̸e̶l̵l̶,̶ c͝h͝a͞m͟p."

Its bloody hand patted her head mockingly, like a trainer congratulating a student who finished dead last.

Then her body dissolved into glitching fragments… erased from this world like she never mattered.

Respawn screen.

Dark.

Alone.

"Run again."
