My eyes widened in surprise when I locked eyes with Caleb at such close range. I could hear my own heart pounding, and it sounded very loud. My cheeks flushed with embarrassment, afraid that Caleb could also hear my heartbeat.
"If your heart keeps beating that fast, I'm afraid you'll have a heart attack," Caleb said, looking at me meaningfully as he teased me.
I pouted when I heard his words, then pushed his shoulder away from me. That's when Caleb burst out laughing, and I sat back down in my chair with my arms crossed in front of my chest.
"Stop teasing me, Caleb. You startled me, that's why my heart is beating faster!" I quickly cleared my name, hoping he would believe the nonsense I was spouting.
Caleb was still chuckling softly, but he nodded his head. "Oh, I see. I thought I made your heart flutter," Caleb replied, still shaking his head.
