Chapter 2 - Up against what?

The time was already 07:15pm, with thoughts being enraged I never took a glimpse at the clock.

Who was this, who did this, how did they know me, and what actually is their plan.

" Snap out of it Greene, this is more than a serial killer this i would call an act of vengeance." Sarah said breathing somewhat uneasy.

" Send a message to the unit and tell them Waller Greene got a message." Barnes ordered David.

" What's that supposed to mean?" To my expertise I've never seen myself to be in a situation where I have no clue what's going on.

" Every person with a high profile in New York have been sent a message and after that a while lot of sinister shit begins to happen." David explains.

An so It begins. Looking once again at Mary Lee's body, a familiar scent got into me and I blacked out.

FOUR YEARS AGO.

I sat down beside a coffee shop with a cigarette in my hand " bullocks." I muttered.

" Language Greene "

" Sorry. I don't just understand why we have to wait here, of all places."

It felt awkward sitting down beside a coffee shop waiting for someone we haven't met before.

" We don't even know what he looks like." I blurted out somewhat irritated by the whole mission.

It's been three years since I and ben were commemorated into the NYPD and ever since being partners. Two days ago a man was kidnapped from his. A former FBI agent being kidnapped, i don't see how this needs the helping hand of two underperforming cops. Ben on the other hand seemed very calm about it like he's been doing this type of mission since birth.

Now we have to sit and wait for someone who has information about the whole situation.

Well Ben stood in front of me with a cup of coffee in his hands, with his curly hair nicely trimmed, while wearing a sunglass to match the black leather jacket, and blue jeans.

He slowly turned with a grin on his face and replied.

" I know how the whole situation looks and to say the truth Greene, this is supposed to be bigger than us, but what say do we have in this, turning down a job like this when trying to get enrolled into the higher ranks. Waller we need this."

Looking at the eyes of my partner and long time friend I could tell how serious he was, and from the perspective of mine I knew we're in for a ride.

PRESENT DAY.

Everything wasn't going alright in my head, I could tell by the way my heart kept pounding, but as much as I want to have a Caribbean vacation this case was beyond the whole team, and I couldn't stand by and watch anymore.

I took a glance at my partner, David, then back at the case file. "Alright, here's what we do. We start by reviewing the notes, looking for any patterns or connections. I want to know everything about Mary's last 48 hours – where she went, who she talked to, everything."

I paused for a while, thinking. "We need to talk to Jason Hitchcock, see if he's noticed anything unusual. And we need to keep this quiet, for now."

David nods, already moving. "Got it. I'll get the team on it."

The game is on. What a very unlikely time to think but am I going way ahead of this.

What is my angle, in as much as I want to bail out, the write up crawls into my mind " The darkness comes for you next." How can one overlook a message as this for some fucked up vacation.

I sat down took a deep sigh looking at the ceiling then back down at my desk, my door opened and a familiar body walked inside. " Sarah." I muttered.

"Sarah's got news," she said, her voice low and urgent, as she slid into the chair just in front of me. "I've been going through Mary's files, and I found something... unusual."

She hands me a folder, her eyes locked on mine. "A few weeks ago, Mary received a complaint about a suspicious person lurking around her neighborhood. She filed a report, but there's no follow-up."

I open the folder, and a piece of paper with an address catches your eye. "This is..."

"The same address where Mary's body was found," Sarah finishes, her expression grim.

" Who's desk was this on?" I asked curiously.

" Nobody knows, all they said was that is was found on the chiefs desk." She replied.

" They sent you a message. Waller we are playing a game and we are already loosing "

She stood up about leaving.

" Who was her partner?" I asked.

She stopped abruptly.

" We called him shady, his real name was Patrick Solomon."

" called? What's that supposed to mean?" Surprised at her words.

" Waller there's a lot you don't know, if I were you I would bail out now before things gets out of hand. If you really want to know, he's AWOL, for three months now.____Just be careful Waller, the city of New York is a play ground for death."

The air thickens with tension as Sarah's words hang in the air. "AWOL" echoes in my mind, and the implications are clear: Patrick Solomon's disappearance is no accident.

I began to process the info, with my mind racing. "Shady" doesn't begin to cover it. What was Patrick involved in? And why's Sarah warning me off?

I glance up at Sarah, her eyes darting around the room, a flicker of fear in her gaze. "What's going on, Sarah? What's Patrick got to do with this?"

Sarah's expression hardens, a mask slipping into place. "Just be careful, Waller. You're playing with fire." She turns to leave, then pauses. "One more thing: Patrick was working on a case, something big. He mentioned it to me once... 'Eclipse'."

" What did you just say?"

' Eclipse ' that was the case that got Ben off, going toe to toe with a shadow world where no rules were made and soon enough he inew too much and was cut off.

I could still remember how the whole NYPD was compromised and everything seemed unpredictable, saying a little about someone can get another killed.

" Are you okay?"___" Waller?"

Her voice faded into the thin air________

THREE YEARS AGO.

" It's been hours since we've been out here waiting for a ghost, I think it's time we retire, what do you say?" I said smiling.

" Waller, the NY PD has been compromised alongside the government, meeting with this person has to be discreet especially he not knowing we're here to get information from him."

Ben was a time bomb, that I could remember, all the while i was with him i could tell something was fishy but I kept on with him like a dog getting fed before being killed.

" If you say so_______" who's that?" I alerted Ben who hurriedly stood up with a beaming smile.

Words barely left my lips when Ben's eyes light up, and he springs into action. "That's him," he whispers, his voice barely audible.

I followed his gaze, and my eyes land on a figure emerging from the shadows. Tall, imposing, and radiating an air of confidence. He's dressed in a tailored suit, and his eyes scan the surroundings with a calculating intensity.

As he approaches, I notice a faint scar above his left eyebrow and a cold, calculating glare that makes my instincts scream warning.

"Showtime," Ben mutters, his hand on his gun.

The man stops in front of Ben, his eyes locking onto mine. "Ben," he says, his voice low and smooth. "I've been expecting you."

I recognize the voice, even though it was night and a shiver runs down your spine. It's...

"Devon Micheal," I said ,my voice steady.

PRESENT DAY.

Devon Micheal was a close friend from the academy but due to our consistent failure to progress further he became our senior, and now the chief of police,___NYPD.

Devon Michael's pursuit of Eclipse, a secretive group working for wealthy individuals, is a thrilling lead. Eclipse seems to be a mysterious organization with powerful backers, making them a formidable foe.

This is my second day being back in New York and a lot has already began to unfold itself.

What am I missing?

____ I soon felt a hand hit my shoulder.

" Yeah, am alright." I yelled.

___ Raising my head to see Sarah looking at me with a puzzled stare.

" You kind of drifted, is everything okay?"

I took in a deep breath and muttered " I'm fine."

She smiled and left the office.

After an awkward moment with myself, I let out a sigh. Maybe after a nap everything will fall in place.
