We stepped through the bone-gate, and reality shifted.
The throne room I'd glimpsed from outside was gone. Or transformed. Or had never been real in the first place.
Instead, we stood in a palace.
Not made of stone or wood or any mortal material. Made of glass and moonfire and something that looked like captured starlight given solid form.
The walls were transparent, showing an impossible view. We weren't on ground. Weren't in any realm I recognized.
We were suspended above the stars.
Literally floating in space between constellations, the palace a bubble of reality in an ocean of cosmic void.
Below us, through the glass floor, I could see galaxies spinning. Stars being born and dying. The universe itself stretching into infinity.
Above us, the same. Endless space. Endless possibility. Endless nothing.
"Where are we?" Kael whispered, his voice barely audible.
