{NATHAN}
The kitchen door closes, and I don't need to look up to know it's Sam. My friend's gigantic presence takes up a lot of space in
a room. I keep scrolling on my phone, reading the article on my screen.
"They're waiting for you," he says seriously. "If you keep people from the Kings and NSC in a room for too long without supervision, you'll come back to a bloodbath."
"I haven't had breakfast yet."
I sense him looking around the room. "You haven't made any breakfast, Nate."
Finally looking up, I eye him standing on the other side of the kitchen island where I'm sitting. I take a sip of my coffee and put the mug back on the table.
"I was hoping my beautiful wife would make me breakfast."
Just as I say that, Emma is the next person to enter the kitchen.
"Your beautiful wife is still tending to the bruises you left around her neck."
Her voice is a little snappy today. Who would've thought she would care if I hurt Kay or not?
