Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Home

Devon hovered in the air, his eyes glowing bright red, his white silk hair fluttering in the void's faint currents.

Necrofell, the blade forged through countless battles, glowed a ghastly red, casting him as both devil and angel.

The arm gripping Necrofell bore tattoos that pulsed blood-red beneath his black fitted cloth, marking his god-level Nexus, a power carved from centuries of defiance against fate.

Moving with extreme speed, he tore through space, leaving a void where he'd stood.

Then he struck—clang!

The giant, now shrunk to Devon's size but still wielding its massive shield and sword, blocked the blow but was sent tumbling into the darkness at high speed.

Minutes later, it halted, standing on its feet, both arms severed from Devon's attack, its chest plate caved in like crumpled metal.

Devon stayed on its tail, moving even faster.

He smashed and smashed, severing the giant's legs and nearly splitting its torso.

The once-glorious guardian of the Nexus Void, forged to test those seeking divine power, looked like a chewed-up toy, its brass armor cracked and dim.

"You are impressively durable, as durable as I was as a deity but that is all you are a pitiful copy. Perhaps when I was a deity, you would have given me hard time, but alas, I have to be on my way and you are on my way."

Increasing his strength, he tore the side of the fitted cloth where he held the sword, revealing the blood-colored tattoo glowing brighter on his hand.

He raised Necrofell, about to slice the giant in half, when, in an instant, the giant regenerated its arms, shield, and sword.

Boom! It blocked the strike, the explosion echoing through the void.

Devon's eyes narrowed.

The giant lay on the floor, its helmet gone.

Its face was a featureless shadow, with only its red eyes glowing like embers in the dark.

The helmet regenerated in a flash of dark energy as soon as Devon caught a glimpse.

"I had my thought if u could regenerate, seeing as you copy everything, and alas I was right, you are even capable of regeneration of inanimate objects."

Devon started a chant as he knelt on the floor, a runic circle forming around him, glowing with white light.

"Melest de futa, eris ta ni telest wa reut."

The light spread through the dark expanse, his attack spell building power to end the giant.

In that moment, he saw it—the golden door he'd been searching for, tiny in the distance but unmistakable, its runes pulsing with the word ORDER.

He stopped the chant, realizing the door wasn't opened by defeating the giant but protected by it.

The giant, sensing Devon's shift toward the door, roared, its body glowing black with nexus energy.

"Is that nexus" Devon asked in shock.

"Very well, I guess I will have to show you that I have the right to pass through that door, Devon glowed as well releasing a red miasma around him his nexus he struck the monster struck as well, but just before the moment of the attack Devon vanished, from the view of the giant who was shocked as he couldn't find his opponent a h more.

Looking to his back, Devon had already opened the door.

The giant rushed back with immense speed.

"See you later, you were strong, indeed, I already lost to you, there was no way I would have won."

Devon, passing through the door, felt his body disintegrating into particles.

He pulled out the Eye of Stasis, given to him by Nick during their final stand in the ruined city, along with his own Eyes of Time and Space.

He ripped out his own eyes with his hands, unflinching as blood poured from the sockets.

Gripping them, he chanted, his voice steady despite the pain.

Just as he was about to disintegrate into dust, a sphere formed around him.

He restored his body with instant regeneration and vanished from the spot.

The next time he opened his eyes, he was naked.

The smell of diesel engines and the concrete-tarred road told him he was in Ohio.

He was home.

The stares of people around him, one man likely calling the police, confirmed it.

Not wasting time, he vanished from the spot, appearing at a run-down apartment.

He smiled.

"It's good to be home."
