Chapter 1 - Chapter One: After the End

Finally, after a long day, all I want to do is watch the sun make way for the stars.

My balcony is small, but offers a wonderful view of the city, far too high to see it's not-so-nice elements.

My boss thinks he can just toss everyone's jobs on me and call it a day.

I wish I had enough money to move out of this-

Dropped my phone!

I can still reach it....

"AAAAAAAA!!"

THE CHEAP BALCONY RAILING OF MY STUPID APARTMENT SNAPPED!!!

I fell, waiting for impact.

I didn't want to see it.

Maybe I'd die.

Maybe I'd get a concussion.

Maybe I'd break everything and be in the hospital for a month.

The worst things filled my head, and for a moment, time stopped.

This was the end.

23 year old woman with not enough money for anyone to even bother with a will reading and parents that would only go to the funeral for a good image.

Black.

No thoughts, no blood, no pain, just.... emptiness.

Lack.

Then, my eyes fluttered open.

I sat up fast enough to make my head throb.

People I don't know rushed to check on me since I sat up so quickly.

Doctors, nurses?

No... servants?

Hospital?

No.

Luxurious bedroom, no tubes, no beeping monitor, lavender curtains and soft pink bedsheets and pillows softer than clouds.

"What the- Where am I??"

The ladies looked at each other, confused and slightly concerned.

"Elvina, you're in your bedroom. Would you like us to fetch Lorea?" Says the lady with the light amber hair.

Her nametag said 'Pandra'.

"Uh... Pandra, I um..... I guess I was just confused after waking up. Yes, could you get.... Lorea?"

Pandra chuckles and says "You do know you can just call her 'mother', don't you, Elvina?"

Elvina?

That's not my name.

Wait, my hair isn't normally black, it's supposed to be brown!

I have to find out what's happening.

"Of- of course. Would you mind to ask- mother to come?"

My mother wouldn't care to talk to me in the slightest, but my mom also isn't named Lorea.

Everything is as if I was reincarnated.

What if I'm just asleep?

Pandra leaves to room to bring Lorea to my room, and the other servants leave to do who knows what, probably clean I guess?

I've never had servants before, I hope Lorea and her husband treat them well.

It's hard to accept, but I might have been reincarnated.

Who am I though?

Elvina is a name, but names mean little right now, I need to know who this person really is.

My family seems to be of high importance if we can afford servants, a stark contrast to my small one bedroom apartment and cold hot dogs in my life before whatever this is.

My thoughts are interrupted by the door opening.

A beautiful woman, I assume Lorea, enters and kneels beside me.

Black hair, amethyst purple eyes, gorgeous black robe with a silver hip-sash and a tree design on the chest area - also silver.

"Good morning, Elvina. Is anything bothering you? Pandra said you were a bit distraught when you woke. Asked where you were."

The warmth in her voice was nice, felt comforting, but my panic won.

"Oh, I was just a bit confused. I sat up too fast and got dizzy" I tried to make myself sound normal, not stressed, and Lorea's expression didn't change, so I think I did well.

"Well, Odessa is readying breakfast and your older sister is already in the kitchen."

Sister?

This is confusing, I'm used to having a little brother, and I haven't even met my new dad yet.

"Of course, mother." I force a smile, small, subtle, and convincing.

Lorea leaves the room.

A servant with a nametag reading 'Etro' enters.

"Good morning, Elvina. What outfit would you like to wear today?"

I get up, my light weight surprising me.

Right, I'm a kid.

I follow Etro to the closet, and when she opens it, it's a walk-in closet bigger than most living rooms.

Gorgeous dresses, skirts, robes, shirts, and for some reason not a single pair of pants, are behind it.

The only bottom clothing items are underpants, which somehow also look luxurious, skirts, dresses, and gowns.

The gowns weren't stereotypical poofy, bulged-out dresses like Lottie from The Princess and the Frog wears, but long, elegant gowns.

I walk in, trying to act as if I'd been here a million times before, hiding my amazement, and I pick a dark, unsaturated blue dress, about knee-high considering my child size.

Etro nods, grabs it, and we leave the closet, shutting it behind me.

Wait- is this the kind of place servants dress me??

Etro asks if I'll need help with the lace or if I can do it on my own.

Phew.

"Um, I might need help with the lace after I have it on, but you may wait outside of my bedroom while I dress." I force slight authority into my voice without using too much, and it seems to work.

Etro doesn't talk as much as most of the other maids do.

She just nods again and leaves, closing the door softly.

I dress and can't get the lace.

Stupid laces. What, have they never seen a zipper before?

I ask Etro for help, and she ties it in one fluid motion.

I start to exit the room, but Etro hands me a pair of mid-height heels.

No problem, I wore heels all the time when I still cared enough to date.

I slip them on and make my way to the kitchen.

Shoot, I don't know where it is.

I pass many servants while searching- Viosa, Mailynn, Nossica, Mirage, Laissee, Pandra, Chonra.

I finally find the dining room, which is connected with the kitchen by a dark pinewood door.
