Chapter 8 - More People, Huh? But I’ve Got My Own Recruits

Ethan Hunter was momentarily stunned. Was it really completed just like that?

He had thought he needed to report back to Nick Fury before the mission would officially be considered accomplished.

Meanwhile, the system alert continued to beep.

[Mission-related characters: Ada Wong, Harley Quinn, Batman, Joker][Reward being randomly drawn…][Acquired Ada Wong's undercover disguise skills][Acquired Harley Quinn's flexibility][Acquired Batman's willpower][Acquired Dionysus Factor]

Among the characters in the draw, those with numerous skills were more likely to "pollute" the reward pool.

The first three were decent but ordinary. The only noteworthy skill was Batman's willpower, strong enough to wield a Green Lantern ring.

But compared to the Dionysus Factor, it seemed mundane.

Of these four, the most powerful ability was probably the Joker's Dionysus Factor.

"Savage" Vandal Savage, "Ninja Master" Ra's al Ghul, and the Talons of the Court of Owls were all famous villains, but they were merely degraded versions of the Dionysus Factor.

The pure Dionysus Factor belonged only to the Joker—almost transcending the rules, immortal.

However, whether degraded or pure, the Dionysus Factor only grants self-healing, agelessness, and even resurrection. It does not enhance physical abilities.

Thinking of this, Ethan Hunter couldn't help but smirk with pride.

Completing a mission for the first time and gaining this kind of life-saving, self-healing ability?

For someone whose biggest pre-transmigration reward was two bags of soy sauce, this was pure luck.

Yet, showing that smirk with the lipstick mark Harley Quinn had just left on him made him look slightly lecherous.

"Ahem, Ada, your eyes look off."

"In a situation like this, holding back from calling the police is already an achievement."

"Don't kid around. I answer the emergency calls, what can you do? And besides, we still have a problem to solve." Ethan Hunter shrugged with a smile and headed toward the door. "This is the Joker. Since he came to Arkham Asylum, it means the organization that always follows him has come out in full force as well."

"The Joker Gang." Batman, silent for a long moment, finally spoke. He cast a complex glance at Harley Quinn. "If there are no accidents, the Joker's mission to rescue Harley Quinn is just a pretext. The real goal is to take over and seize control of the entire Arkham Asylum, right?"

Harley Quinn's expression changed. She aimed at the Joker's body again, firing the last bullet into it.

Then the repeated "click-click" of the empty gun interrupted everyone's thoughts.

"Magazines." Harley Quinn naturally extended her hand toward Ethan Hunter. "No bullets left."

Ethan Hunter didn't hesitate and handed her all three magazines.

But no one expected that once she had bullets, she would reverse-grip the Magnum and slam it hard onto the Joker's already bullet-ridden head.

This was a whole new level of mental destruction.

"Use, once again to use. Joker, I once worshiped you so blindly. Harleen Quinzel kept warning me all along, but I ignored it." Harley Quinn calmly stared at the Joker's battered body. "I've heard you can resurrect continuously. From now on, I will create a big new hole in your head, one after another."

"Alright, enough with the threats, sis. Let's first deal with the Joker Gang, okay?" Ethan Hunter showed a worried expression but remained calm inside. "As a former ally, you know how large the Joker Gang is. One slip, and we, mere mortals, could be done for."

Batman, silent as ever, thought the same.

If they were careless today, disaster could strike.

Everyone knew: he might always win arranged fights, but ambushes were another story.

Without the ability to strategize and deploy resources, Batman was just a representative of human limits.

Fighting dozens of people was still manageable.

But facing hundreds of armed enemies? The difficulty would increase exponentially; one wrong move could be fatal.

In this world, the so-called "Justice League" hadn't been established yet. Batman was still young, even the Bat-family wasn't formed. Otherwise, knowing his grandfather's personality, he would have already started recruiting.

Right now, he was still in the stage of rebellious solo action.

"But if the Joker Gang launches a full-scale assault on Arkham Asylum, that fat guy's kid is probably safe." Ethan Hunter looked back at the shivering, crouched deputy director. "You—carry the Joker's body and come with us."
