Chapter 7 - The Shadow at the Dock

Scene 1 — The Engine's Echo

The GR86 idled under the garage light.

Kenta leaned against the doorway, towel over his shoulder.

It wasn't loud, just steady. The kind of sound that stayed in your chest.

From the shop window, the neon sign flickered against the rain.

Somewhere across the street, a neighbor lifted a phone.

The camera light blinked twice.

By morning, the clip would be online.

Scene 2 — The Visit

The bell above Harbor Noodles rang twice.

A man walked in wearing a dark jacket.

He smiled too easily, eyes sharp underneath.

Man: "Heard you serve late."

Teo: "Sometimes."

Man: "Quiet spot. Hard to miss that car out back."

Kenta froze mid-wash.

Kenta: "The white one?"

Man: "Yeah. Haven't seen one that clean in years.

Used to see them at the docks. Fast cars. Loud nights."

Teo didn't look up.

Teo: "Those nights are over."

The man nodded, still smiling.

He left the bowl untouched.

Scene 3 — The Kitchen

The sound of the door lingered.

Kaiya rinsed the bowl. Mika dried it without a word.

Mika: "You think he's a fan?"

Kaiya: "Fans eat what they order."

Teo: "He's not a fan."

Kenta leaned on the counter.

Kenta: "You know him?"

Teo: "No. But he knows noise."

They went quiet again.

Outside, the rain didn't stop.

Scene 4 — The Rumor

By morning, the video was everywhere.

The GR86 under a shop sign. Headlights cutting through rain.

Caption: "The Ghost's Car Lives."

Comment sections guessed everything—illegal runs, street revivals, secret racers.

None of it true.

But truth moved slower than rumor.

Ryo sent a message before noon:

"Keep that thing under wraps. Eyes on the docks."

Kenta deleted it.

The car stayed under its tarp.

He still checked on it every hour.

Scene 5 — Father and Son

Teo found him late that night, crouched by the hood.

Teo: "You're supposed to be sleeping."

Kenta: "Can't."

Teo: "Then stop pretending it's about the car."

Kenta: "Feels like I broke something by fixing it."

Teo watched him for a moment, then turned away.

Teo: "You didn't break it. You made people remember something they forgot."

Kenta: "Is that bad?"

Teo: "Depends who's remembering."

They stood in silence. The rain hit the pavement in slow rhythm.

The engine cooled beside them, quiet as breath.

Scene 6 — Streetlight

Later that night, a black sedan idled two blocks down.

Two men sat inside, camera between them.

Man 1: "That's the shop."

Man 2: "Kid's too clean for trouble."

Man 1: "Trouble doesn't ask permission."

The car rolled away.

Teo stood at the window, towel still in hand.

The reflection of the GR86 shimmered in the glass.

He didn't move.

Didn't blink.

Just waited.
