[Blood Diary Entry]
Her shock only lasted a few seconds as she regained her composure soon after. She soon smiled kindly and looked over me, directly at my mother.
Much like me, she heard her heart spike, which meant somehow Mom knew about the Mikaelsons, not totally surprising since she kept regular company and acquaintances with two vampires.
I'll have to ask how she came to be friendly with vampires and how she learned about the Originals. The Salvatores do keep some journals, but none should have such deep knowledge. But then again, they may be more competent in reality than what the show depicted, but I highly doubt it.
As Mother looked dazedly at us, she suddenly jolted awake.
"I am Isolde Salvatore. Pleasure to meet you, Miss Mikaelson." Mother composed herself and tried to be as composed and friendly as she could, but there was still some fear in her.
Rebekah sensed it as well, and I could see her face souring a bit. She is not really fond of being treated as a monster, understandably so.
"The pleasure is mine, I assure you." Her words seemed to calm Mother a bit, though what she spoke next kicked Mother's fears up a notch. "May I come in, Miss Isolde? I would like to speak with you, and I would rather not do it in the hallway if you wouldn't mind."
Mom looked at me, worry visible on her face. I just smiled and nodded. Before my mother could invite her in, I took the liberty myself.
"You may come in, Miss Rebekah," I chuckled a bit, earning a raised eyebrow from her. "Though the way you speak is a bit outdated, no?"
She giggled softly. "Maybe I am. Thank you for the invitation, though." She passed by me and ruffled my hair. Once she saw my unsatisfied expression, she just giggled again.
"Please sit, I'll make some tea, Darian sweetie, please keep our guest company." The blonde nodded softly and got seated on the run-down sofa, not showing any visible distaste for the poor furniture.
"Sure, Mom! Can I have a soda?" Rebekah looked at me curiously as she heard what I said.
"No! You'll be drinking water, mister."
"But Mooom…"
"No buts," and she just left for the kitchen after ruthlessly cutting my sugary intake for the day.
Rebekah watched our interaction with fondness and longing. I turned to her and tilted my head before putting her on the spot again.
"So, Miss Rebekah… What does such an esteemed Original want with our little household?" Rebekah flinched and froze in her seat.
"You seem to know a lot for someone so young, little Darian." Her eyes narrowed.
I just grinned and didn't say much else.
"I don't know why I am here?" Tilting her head, she didn't offer more details, and seeing I didn't catch on, she smirked playfully, matching my previous grin.
We stared at each other for a while.
"Tsk, you're way too petty." I relented, and she just giggled victoriously.
"It comes with experience, little one." She put on an arrogant expression.
I raised my eyebrows, and my grin came back.
Catching the underlying tease, I saw her eyes twitching and a vein on her forehead pulse in annoyance.
"Jokes aside, I am really curious what brings you to us."
My head worked in overdrive searching for probable cause. She shouldn't even be awake at this point in time. I can almost hear the flutter of a butterfly's wings somewhere. My predecessor's arrival may have caused more unforeseen consequences than I expected.
Two possibilities come to the top of my head: One, she is looking for Stefan, as she should still be infatuated with him; Two, she is somehow aware of my real nature.
"You were there last night." Rebekah flashed a knowing smile and simply nodded.
"Indeed, I was."
"But that still doesn't answer my question, though?"
"You could say I am simply curious."
"Curious, you say?"
"You feel very different from anything I have encountered or heard of before. So, I simply got curious.
"And what exactly do you wish to do to sate your curiosity, Miss Rebekah? And what will you do after it has been sated?"
She paused and studied my face, trying to catch a read of me. But when she seemed to have failed, she just shook her head and laughed softly.
"You are a really unique child, aren't you?" I didn't answer and just waited for her to continue. "I did say before that I wished no harm on you or your mother, and I meant it." She crossed her legs elegantly. "I have lived for a long time—as you so unceremoniously pointed out, you rude kid—and as such I simply enjoy learning and experiencing new things."
I could feel she didn't lie, but wasn't being entirely truthful either.
"You're not telling me something, Miss Rebekah… What are you not telling me?"
"I woke up only yesterday from a long and forced slumber, and I was confused and somewhat lost, I must admit. I wanted to search for someone, but I didn't even know where to begin, and in my daze, I felt a pull towards something. I decided to follow that pull, and it led me to you."
"Who were you searching for? If you don't mind me asking, that is."
Her head lowered slightly. "I- He- I am not-" Seeing that she wasn't really too keen on this subject, I decided to drop it, lest I antagonize her.
"You don't need to tell me, Miss Rebekah." She seemed eager to drop the matter as she looked at me gratefully. "It doesn't seem to be something that you're comfortable sharing, so let's forget about it."
"Thank you…" She sighed.
"Were you the one I sensed last night?" When she heard my question, she just smiled and shook her head.
"It wasn't me. There was someone else watching as well." When she saw my unease, she explained some more. "You don't need to worry about it. I don't think the one who saw you will be in any condition to seek you out any time soon."
"You dealt with them?" I asked curiously.
"I didn't need to, as you seemed to have scared them off on your own." She leaned back on the couch, visibly getting more comfortable.
"So, Miss Mikaelson…" I said playfully, and she seemed to find it amusing as well. "How do you intend to 'learn and experience new things' as you said before?"
"I would like for your mother to be here when we have that conversation if you don't mind. Mature and sensible as you seem to be, this is something I must discuss with her as well."
As she said that, we both heard footsteps coming our way. The soft and calming scent of tea flared in my nostrils.
Mother made her way towards us and put a tray with two cups of tea and a glass of water on the table, before she sat by my side.
She still seemed to be nervous by Rebekah's presence, judging by her body language, and so far, the Original vampire had been nothing but friendly, so I decided to help ease things up.
I put a hand on her shoulder and gave her a few soft taps to calm her down, and when she looked at me, I just nodded my head with a calm smile on my face.
Rebekah seemed to notice as she just mouthed a 'thank you' to me.
Mother calmed down and pointed to the tea, offering some to the polite vampire.
Rebekah shook her head, politely declining.
"So, what were you saying, Miss Rebekah?" I decided to kickstart the conversation again.
"You can just call me Rebekah if you prefer, little Darian." She smiled at me before turning to my mom. "You as well, if it makes you more comfortable."
"Thank you, Rebekah, I'll do that." Mother just nodded.
"Now, as I was saying to your son, he seems to be somewhat unique, and I am very curious about him. And judging by what I heard of packing things up, you seem to be leaving town, am I correct?" Mother and I nodded. "So, I offer to help in keeping an eye on Darian and keeping you both safe until he grows up, and in return, I would get to talk to him regularly and learn more about him. Would that be a satisfying agreement to you?"
Mother seemed hesitant about it, and seemed to want to deny it, but when she looked at me, she couldn't seem to come to a decision.
I looked gently towards Rebekah before I turned towards Mom.
"I don't really mind it, but it is your choice, Mom."
Hearing my words, Mother seemed to retreat into her thoughts for a while. But as memories of yesterday resurfaced, she steeled her resolve.
"I agree, but I also want you to teach us about your world," she spoke the words in a way that would leave little room for misunderstanding, "and you will also teach Darian how to protect himself." Her words made me frown, but when I felt her squeeze my hands with quite a bit of strength, I sighed.
Rebekah smiled brightly, a dazingly bright smile.
She is truly an unfair existence.
"We have ourselves a deal then!"
