Arora shut the office door behind her and leaned back against it, breath uneven.
Her pulse still hadn't settled.
She touched her lips unconsciously — remembering the warmth of Jack's mouth, the way he lifted her so effortlessly, the way he lost control and then snapped back into obedience the moment she said stop.
That scared her more than anything.
Not Jack.
Not the kiss.
Not the desire that curled inside her like a wildfire she couldn't stamp out.
What scared her was how easy it would be to fall.
How easy it would be to forget the world she lived in.
For a moment — a dangerous, beautiful moment — she wanted to forget revenge, forget enemies, forget the poisons and kidnappings and missing pieces.
She wanted to sink into something warm. Something human.
But her phone rang, slicing the fantasy apart.
It was Miso.
Arora inhaled sharply, forcing her voice steady.
