Chapter 19 - The Dream of the Past

"Even if you were in college, you'd still be a kid in my eyes," Dr. Ding replied with a warm chuckle. "Alright, lie down now."

Rong Xingyu was already tired and his thoughts were getting fuzzy.

Hearing that soft voice, he obediently lay down while still holding his phone in his hand.

He turned to his side while resting his head on the pillow. Dr. Ding's calm and soothing voice flowed out from the phone beside him like a gentle stream.

"Once upon a time, there was a little rabbit who lived in a forest. The rabbit was very timid. Whenever something scared him, his eyes would turn red and sometimes he would even cry. His name was Yuyu…"

Rong Xingyu's eyelids were already heavy. He struggled to open his eyes and protested weakly, "That's not true. I'm not timid at all…"

Dr. Ding laughed quietly. "Alright, Yuyu is brave. So that night, the little rabbit Yuyu felt sleepy. He lay down on his soft mushroom bed and slowly closed his eyes…"

The hand holding the phone slowly loosened its grip. Rong Xingyu's breathing became calm and steady. He had fallen asleep with the corners of his lips curved into a faint smile.

But when Rong Xingyu opened his eyes again, he was standing alone in a vast white hall.

People hurried past him, their expressions distant and serious.

The sharp, sterile smell of disinfectant filled the air.

Rong Xingyu's pupils widened in shock.

This was… the hospital from his past life!

He was back?!

He was back!

Overjoyed, Rong Xingyu ran toward the exit. He didn't even know what time it was—before the accident or after?

Then, he saw a young boy around eight or nine years old holding the hand of a little girl who looked a few years younger. They were walking out of the hospital together.

It was his little brother and sister!

His heart leapt with joy and he rushed toward them.

"Little brother! Little sister! It's me!"

But the boy and girl didn't react at all. They just kept walking straight through him.

Rong Xingyu froze in place while staring this scene in disbelief.

He looked down at his hands and his fingers were turning faint and transparent.

What… what was happening to him?

"Little brother! Little sister!!" Rong Xingyu shouted, his mind spinning in panic. He stumbled after them.

The little girl suddenly started crying and she trying wiping her tears with her tiny hands. "Brother… I miss big brother so much. Where did he go? Did he not want us anymore?"

No… that's not true!

No, I didn't abandon you!

Rong Xingyu watched from the side, his heart twisting in pain. He wanted to reach out and hold his little sister, but every time he tried, his arm passed straight through her small body.

The young boy stopped walking and gently wiped the tears from his sister's face. Despite his tender age, there was a rare maturity in his expression.
