Chapter 11 - A Burning Question

Two people sat alone in the Emperor's Coven's dining hall. Both with needles in their hands.

"You want to talk about your clothes?" Grape asked with a needle in their hand.

"Nope," Axel replied, mending a few rips in his sleeves.

Axel was specifically mending where his clothes caught had on fire, and he had to rip a section off so his full costume wouldn't burn.

"Ok then," Grape replied, continuing to show Axel how to sow.

They were mostly silent as Axel and Grape sowed; the only time they talked is when Grape was telling Axel what to do wrong or when Axel asked if he was doing well.

"You're getting pretty good at this," Grape told Axel, breaking the silence.

"Thanks," Axel said looking at his sleeves.

He could barely see where he sowed, but that was only on a close inspection. If someone just took a glance at Axel, all they would see is a scout of the Emperor's Coven.

"Why did you get into sowing?" Axel asked out of curiosity.

Axel was getting kind of bored just saying nothing, but he didn't know what a normal witch would talk about.

"Oh, my neighborhood wasn't the richest, so I sewed up kid's things if anything of theirs broke," Grape replied with a smile.

"Interesting," Axel said, turning his head back down to his sleeve.

Another piece of paper ignited in Axel's room, and after it went out it was quickly thrown in the trash can.

He was looking for a weapon to use, a fire to burn his enemies. But the fire made by the glyph almost refused to harm things.

Even when the fire was close to Axel's own skin, while it was hot, it didn't burn him, though he was still wearing his coven gloves. The only use for the fire that he's found is that in propels things that are lit.

If Axel were to light his notebook up with the glyph and throw it, it would go farther that it usually would.

But even then, the danger comes from the thing being lit on fire, and not the fire itself.

'Why can't this thing be normal fire?'

Of course, if the glyph did make normal fire, the room he was in would probably be up in flames, so at least he could be thankful for that.

However, there was one discovery that he made that could help the usefulness of glyph.

He discovered it when he was messing around with the glyph, seeing that the size of the glyph impacted the power and heat produced, when his sleeve caught alight.

For a moment, Axel didn't even notice that his sleeve was on fire due to him dealing with the magic fire. But when he realized that his sleeve was on normal fire, he quickly ripped it off and stomped the normal fire off.

It was interesting, and a good way to actually do some damage to whatever witch he was tiring to harm.

Reaching into his pocket, Axel placed one of his plastic balls onto his desks. He then took his pencil and drew the fire glyph onto the ball.

Picking the ball Axel threw it into the air. As he did, he slid a gloved finger across the ball. And as the ball left his hand, in was set on fire.

And after a moment the fireball fell back into his hand and died, leaving just the plastic ball in his hand.

He then squeezed the plastic ball in his hand, and he heard it slightly crack.

It would seem that whatever the fire glyph was used on would slightly degrade, by how much Axel wasn't sure.

All he did know was that he needed to find a way to get him some more plastic balls.

A new day brings new opportunities, and Axel was ready to go and buy somethings. Though first he would have to get through the working day.

Axel was met up with the other five scouts in their designated place. With the only person late being Artichoke, with his watch behind a few hours again.

'How?'

Axel could hear the captain mumbling something underneath his mask about being late.

"Today we were given an important mission," the captain said, "A Basilisk has been spotted in Ligmis, we are to either bring it in or eliminate it," the captain explains.

"Why's it got to be a Basilisk," Apple whined in response.

"Weren't those things driven to extinction?" Artichoke asked.

"The Titan wishes them extinct, and we are to finish his work," the captain replied, "Now grab a spear," they ordered.

"So, are we searching the whole town, or do we have a specific segment to search?" Grape asked the captain.

"We have been provided a locator with the Basilisks location by Ms. Lilith," the captain is answered, taking some kind of map out of his coat, "We have also been given magic sealing cuffs that have been given to another scout for the time being," the captain explained.

Lettuce nodded, taking the cuffs out of his pockets and showing the group.

"Give me that," Apple said taking the map out of the captain's hand.

The map looked like any ordinary map, except that it had a rather large dot in the center, and the map was moving to keep the dot in the center as the dot moved.

"What is this?" Apple exclaimed, "The range where the Basilisk could be is huge, the town layout hasn't been updated in at least a year, and you can't even move the map!" they complained.

"The Emperor's Coven has provided us with an up-to-date way to track the Basilisk, be grateful," the captain told Apple.

"Yeah, but they didn't need to give us something so old," Apple replied, "I've seen better locators in stores that were about to close, and we get this crappy thing?" Apple asked.

"So, that just tracks the Basilisk?" Axel asked pointing at the map.

"Yeah, usually through a bug grown into the beast," Apple explained, "But I'm not sure how they got the bug into a Basilisk, where did it come from anyways?" they asked.

"We are not to question the given tools," the caption responded.

"However, we need all the information possible to catch it though," Grape pointed out.

"The Coven has given us the amount of information needed to catch the Basilisk," the captain said back

"What about non-necessary information, like their name?" Grape asked.

"It doesn't have a name, and if it did it wouldn't matter," the captain replied.
