Ruby's POV
But he acted completely unbothered by what I'd heard.
"You're imagining things." His hips rolled forward, driving himself even deeper inside me. "Pay attention to me."
"No, I definitely heard something—"
My words came out in broken gasps as he moved within me.
He ignored my protest entirely. His head dipped down to my throat, his teeth grazing the delicate skin there with deliberate pressure.
Then I caught it again.
The unmistakable sound of feet moving carefully through the underbrush.
Dear god, someone really was nearby! And they were coming closer to our location.
"There's definitely more than one person out there!" I hissed urgently against his ear.
The moonlit lake, the dark tree line... suddenly everything felt like we'd walked into an ambush. I'd assumed we were completely alone in this remote spot. Who could they be? More enemies tracking us down? Professional killers?
And what was seriously wrong with him?!
