"Just tell me!" Kate's voice cracked with desperation. "I promised I'd do anything to save you."
Stanley's fingers tightened around hers through the cold metal bars, his dark eyes boring into her soul.
"The only way to save me is to kill your brother."
The words hung in the air like a death sentence.
Kate's face went sheet white. She yanked her hand back, but Stanley's grip was iron.
"Kill Elias? Have you lost your mind?" Her voice was barely a whisper, terror flickering across her features.
"You said you'd do anything. This is it," Stanley pressed, his tone urgent and raw.
"No. This is completely different!" She shook her head violently. "He's my brother, for crying out loud! He raised me when our parents couldn't be bothered. I can't just murder him."
"This isn't about family anymore," Stanley snarled, his handsome face twisting with rage. "He tried to destroy me, Kate. The man has ice in his veins."
