Ruby's POV
My entire world stopped spinning. Every muscle in my body turned to stone.
It took several heartbeats before I could force words past my lips. "You can actually bring me to her? But she disappeared years ago. Nobody knew where she went."
"Well, she's back now. Things must've gone south for her wherever she was hiding," my father said with a dismissive shrug. "So what's your answer? Want to see her or not? Make up your mind already. I don't have all day."
I remained motionless, hands balled into tight fists, breathing in short, ragged bursts.
This wasn't the outcome I'd imagined. My mother was here, somewhere close by, and I could actually meet her today if I chose to.
But I wasn't prepared for this moment. I'd spent so long searching for her, yet thinking about her and actually coming face to face with her were entirely different realities.
