For a few seconds looking at the transformed McGonagall who is now a cat, Kevin thought he is hallucinating. He wanted to pinch himself but the pain from the wounds made him realise this isn't a dream. McGonagall said," every student who is chosen by the book of admission will be admitted into Hogwarts. Your name is written on it, and you're lucky since you need to head to Hogwarts just the day after tomorrow ".
McGonagall said looking at him," we're already a bit behind the schedule. I can heal your wounds. We need to go shopping later for your school supplies ", Kevin frowned," but I got no money. And I haven't agreed to go to Hogwarts yet ".
McGonagall expression turned serious and she said," Mr Lawrence, There is no need to pay. The founders left a fortune for Hogwarts. Not to mention the funds that Hogwarts receives each year. For students like you, we offer scholarship. Free education and money for school supplies too. and you don't know what kind of disaster you're going to become if you didn't come to Hogwarts to learn how to control your magic. If you didn't learn to control that power within you, you may become an obscurus with your living conditions that will destroy everything in it path and kill the wizard itself which it resides in ".
Kevin frowned," an obscurus? ", McGonagall nodded and started explaining how obscurus came to existence when wizards who is supposed to be in school learning magic didn't attend it and faced negative situations. It gave birth to a parasitic power called obscurus which is extremely unstable, prone to destruction and feeds on it's host life.
A wizard with this will die in a few years or even months. She also explained other risks like getting abducted by dark wizard to be used as test subjects or become slaves in the trafficking or just outright getting killed if you're discovered by muggles. Muggles means non magical folk, she said all this.
She also explained how an obscurus wreak havoc in the 1940's and almost destroyed New York. She also said they had to erase the memories of everyone in the city just to keep the existence of magical world a secret. Kevin frowned, these wizards can even erase and play with minds, this is getting dangerous but also this is an oppurtunity for him. He isn't going to let this go. Such a miraculous power he is eager to get it into his hands.
He isn't like normal children, he saw both light and darkness of this world, he even tired robbing once too. He is like an adult in a child's body. As everyone says, situations and circumstances force people to accept reality and grow up. He is one of them, his parents abandoned him, the orphanage is closed, he is forced to live on streets, he faced constant struggles and came close to death, shedded his naive persona to grow in this unfair world.
yes, in his eyes, his birth itself is unfair. Many of children from orphanage got adopted when it closed, only a handful of them are left to roam in streets. He is one such particular case. All children get to enjoy parents care and were raised by them, but he? he is in streets begging for food and work. They have cozy rooms and warm clothes, while he scavenges everything he had from the dumpsters, he is living in abandoned construction sites with no safety or good environment. So in his eyes, this world is unfair since birth, to live you need to adapt and grow according to the situation, if situation demands strength, then grow strong, if it demands wit, then become smart, if it demands wealth, become rich. Incompetance is sin in his eyes.
That's he is trying his best, he picks up thrown away booms and learned how to read and write, He secretly listened to the music class few blocks away and learned how to play guitar and other instruments, he learned how to become independent. Before this he used to believe in god according to the teachings of the orphanage and believe he will help children like him. But he is later changed when reality slapped him.
If you don't have a background, money or any thing to your name, then you're a prey for others in this world. That's when his life started to get better. He didn't beg, he worked for food and work. He worked for his clothes and needs, he studied books he found everyday. He started learning skills for survival, he learned to be vigilant and self-reliant. He learned how to make money. He learned how to increase his own value. He learned how to adapt and survive to this unfair world.
Kevin made up his mind, he looked McGonagall and said," I'll join Hogwarts. Professor, you said you can heal, can you do it now? It's too painful ", Kevin is enduring this pain all this time. McGonagall nodded. She took out a vial with green liquid in it that is glowing. She then handed it to him and said," this will heal you in a few minutes. you need to drink every last bit of it ", She wanted to use magic to heal him, but she isn't good at healing magic, she will cause even more pain. So she chose this method instead.
