Chapter 12 - The key piece of evidence.

Baltazar Kaitos. This boss appeared when the protagonists were already in their third year at the academy.

He served to develop Luke Kaitos, one of the co-protagonists. Luke was introduced at first as a bully, though over time it became clear he was a deeper character.

He becomes an ally of the protagonist, Alexander Pendragon, who tended to bring some of his antagonists over to his side.

In that scenario, Luke faces Baltazar Kaitos, his uncle, while carrying the pain of having lost his family—who, though always treating him poorly, were still his family.

Luke does not defeat him alone. Alexander and his companions, along with the professors, handled Baltazar's army.

Luke himself confronted Baltazar alongside Rose Rigel, combining their magics to form a more powerful one, ultimately defeating the boss.

However, Baltazar was not the strongest of his group. Aside from his extensive undead forces, he also had help from the Dark Society's assassin guild and, most importantly, Alice, a heroine.

The heroes appeared long ago; they were those who received a divine blessing. When they died, the blessing did not disappear but waited for a new bearer.

Each bearer developed a different version of the blessing, since they were different people. Alice stood out as the strongest heroine in history.

According to the novel, her blessing "Aperion" gave her the ability to increase her power without limits and granted authority over the concept of evolution itself.

In the end, Alice became an important ally for Alexander, though her "difficult" personality meant she didn't always agree to help.

In short, Lloyd's father was a psychopath who massacred his family and sought to destroy the kingdom.

Knowing this, realizing that Baltazar had ignored him was somewhat comforting; learning more about him would surely bring headaches.

—Although… what if it was because of his son's death? —Lloyd whispered to himself.

It was a valid hypothesis. Perhaps those behind his son's death were actually members of the Kaitos family, driving Baltazar insane and pushing him to seek revenge.

Lloyd decided to discard that idea. The first point against it was that Baltazar himself showed no affection toward Lloyd.

Not only was he absent at his birth, but he never appeared at any point in his life. It made sense that Sebastián was upset with him.

Even if he were a busy noble, not visiting your child for their first eight years was extremely cold. It was highly unlikely that Baltazar would mourn the death of a son he never wanted to know.

Additionally, it didn't make sense for his family to want to kill him. Aside from the difficulty of sending someone to Cocytus, being there was already akin to death.

It was even beneficial for him to remain alive; if he died, the Kaitos would have to send another heir, unless another noble took over the territory.

If the latter occurred, they would still have to send a family member to handle another dangerous territory.

In other words, planning Lloyd's death would be self-sabotage.

—Or… maybe that's it.

Then a more plausible idea occurred to him. Perhaps Baltazar already had a difficult personality, so they sent him to Cocytus to get rid of him and punish him.

If so, it would make sense that Baltazar, unhappy with his fate, planned his revenge while building his undead army.

That would make all the pieces fit, but it also meant a serious problem: he himself was in danger.

Perhaps Lloyd would survive if he obediently stayed in Cocytus, but that wasn't a plan he liked.

—I suppose the only way would be to go to the academy.

The Imperial Academy, where all the events of *Tales of Ávalon* take place at the beginning. There, he would at least be safe from his father.

Lloyd didn't dislike the idea; after all, visiting the academy was something he wanted to do. Still, he was far from even dreaming of entering.

—Let's set that aside for now. First, let's solve this mystery —Lloyd finally said, opening Clarinda's room door.

The moment he stepped in, a strong scent of incense hit his nostrils. He never disliked the smell of cinnamon, but this incense was so strong it almost suffocated him.

The young man left the door slightly open to ventilate, then closed it quietly. He knew Clarinda was busy now, so there was no risk of her entering. However, if another maid heard or found him, explaining his presence would be difficult.

Nothing serious would happen, but if suspicions arose, Clarinda could dispose of any incriminating evidence, like the diary Lloyd had come to find.

He took a look around the room; it was smaller than his own, with walls covered in navy blue wallpaper, matching the curtains, bed sheets, and carpet. Lloyd saw some furniture but no possible hiding spots.

—I guess I'll do this the old-fashioned way.

Lloyd began searching: under the bed, the shelves, and finally in the drawers.

He first went for the drawer in the nightstand, but seeing it discouraged him: it had a lock.

The boy sighed, expecting to have to look for a key, but when he pulled the handle, he discovered it wasn't locked.

—Looks like luck's finally smiling on me.

No further search was needed; there, in the drawer, was a book with a black leather cover.

He picked it up and opened it—the mission was complete, he had found it.

However, as he began to read, Lloyd felt disappointed. There wasn't much information: some notes on inventory, and entries about her encounters with the guard.

—Is this really a Demon King system? Seems like it just wants me to snoop on someone else's romance.

Lloyd complained, but he still had time to check more things.

He decided to look through the other drawers, finding only some clothing, until something caught his eye.

—Hmm… what's this?

It was a pendant with a green crystal hanging from it. Lloyd didn't hesitate and activated his *Eye of Greed* on it.

[Touki Enhancer]

{Quality: High}

"An artifact meticulously created to increase the user's Touki quality."

—Wait, wasn't this my…

Before he could finish, Lloyd was interrupted; apparently, Clarinda had decided to return to her room sooner than expected.
