Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: A Smile Uglier Than Tears

It was only after she sat down that she realized the other pile of unorganized clothes were almost all… Representative Chiaki noticed this and looked at Tokai Shizen: "Don't you have your own clothes?"

"Mm."

"Maruzen actually forgot about that." Representative Chiaki just shook her head, saying, "But the Tokai Family really went too far, snatching your child and then kicking you out."

"…Mm."

A rare agreement.

After all, the Tokai Family had indeed been very excessive in this matter.

Tokai Shizen's agreement made Representative Chiaki want to say something more, but she heard a faint cry.

The moment she heard the sound, Tokai Shizen stood up.

Then, as if she noticed Representative Chiaki was still sitting there, Tokai Shizen stiffly sat back down.

Looking at Tokai Shizen's behavior, Representative Chiaki just asked a question: "Oh, could it be that you had twins?"

"Yes, yes."

"Then hurry, it wouldn't be good if something happened to the children."

"Thank you."

Hearing such thanks, Representative Chiaki couldn't understand why the other party was thanking her.

After briefly sorting out the chain of logic in her mind, Representative Chiaki finally understood why the other party was thanking her.

Because I allowed it, she really is a timid person.

Thinking this, Representative Chiaki merely stretched slightly, then shifted her gaze slightly. The entire house was very clean; it seemed someone cleaned it every day.

Considering Maruzensky's personality, Representative Chiaki didn't think she would clean it every day, so… a slight sound of footsteps came. Turning her head, Representative Chiaki saw a young girl who had just come down the stairs.

Looking at her, Representative Chiaki spoke once more: "What's the matter~"

"…She just woke up." Saying this, Tokai Shizen returned to the sofa and continued to sort Maruzensky's clothes.

Looking at Tokai Shizen's behavior, Representative Chiaki didn't say much. She just continued the previous topic: "So, that Tokai Teio, is she really your daughter?"

"Mm."

Tokai Shizen's nod made Representative Chiaki think of many things.

But in the end, she just asked a question: "You, don't you care?"

Tokai Shizen looked up.

Representative Chiaki could see many expressions on her face, but they all ultimately turned into unwillingness and silence.

"It seems I asked a rather inappropriate question." Saying this, Representative Chiaki just stood up: "I…"

"Perhaps I should go."

She took a step, wanting to leave, but her clothes were tugged. Turning her head, she saw Tokai Shizen holding onto her clothes.

"…You haven't eaten yet."

A small reminder was spoken by Tokai Shizen.

After shifting her gaze to her face,

Representative Chiaki saw Tokai Shizen's forced smile.

It was a smile uglier than crying.

However, looking at such a face, Representative Chiaki suddenly understood why Maruzensky would be willing to take her in.

So, Representative Chiaki just nodded:

"Yes, I forgot. I'll eat before I leave then."

One Two: Representative Chiaki realized what a captivating smile meant.

Tokai Shizen's cooking skills had improved significantly compared to a few days ago.

Eating the lunch Tokai Shizen made, Representative Chiaki came to this conclusion.

But… Tokai Shizen, sitting to the side, wasn't eating the same food as her. She was just taking small bites of rice balls.

"Is your body alright?"

As someone who had thoroughly investigated Tokai Shizen, Representative Chiaki was well aware of her physical condition, especially her frailty and frequent illnesses.

And she had just given birth.

Her physical condition must have been much worse than before.

Eating such a staple food in such poor physical condition… This was also a concern Maruzensky had always had, but as Tokai Shizen and her relationship grew closer, this issue gradually disappeared.

But now, Representative Chiaki faced the same problem.

And just as she had answered Maruzensky then, Tokai Shizen also gave a positive reply: "I'm fine."

Looking at Tokai Shizen like this, Representative Chiaki frowned.

"Are you sure you're fine? You used to spend more than four months in the hospital every year, didn't you?"

She slightly moved her chair, getting closer to Tokai Shizen.

After getting a little closer, Representative Chiaki noticed even more.

Her complexion wasn't rosy, and her hair was slightly dry; these were all signs of physical problems.

But she… Thinking of this, Representative Chiaki pondered for a few seconds, then she stood up: "I'll come again tomorrow~"

Saying these words, Representative Chiaki walked towards the door.

When she reached the door, Representative Chiaki seemed to remember something and turned to look at Tokai Shizen: "That child is currently being fully cared for by the Tokai Family. Before she turns three, there shouldn't be much to worry about."

After speaking, Representative Chiaki walked out of the small house.

Then, after taking a few more steps forward, Representative Chiaki turned around. She looked at the residence, which was neither big nor small.

After a few seconds, she turned around and left.

The next day.

The young girl arrived as scheduled.

As before, this time she also brought ingredients for lunch.

After ringing the doorbell again, Representative Chiaki saw the same person, but compared to yesterday, her complexion was slightly better.

However, her dark circles hadn't lessened at all.

This might be because she had to take care of the child.

After all, newborns are indeed a source of trouble day and night.

In such a situation, it would be strange if Tokai Shizen didn't have dark circles.

Looking at Tokai Shizen's dark circles, Representative Chiaki just tilted her head: "Aren't you going to let me in?"

Representative Chiaki's question didn't elicit a response from Tokai Shizen. She just opened the door and then silently walked away.

Looking at the open door, Representative Chiaki quickly walked into the room, then proceeded as she had yesterday.

She placed the ingredients she was holding in the kitchen, then sat down in the same spot she had sat in a day earlier.

Subsequently, the state between the two of them was the same as yesterday, with not much communication.

Representative Chiaki didn't say much about this situation. She just watched Tokai Shizen like an elementary school student observing an insect box.

And after about half an hour, Representative Chiaki finally asked a question: "Tokai,"

She turned her head to look at her.

Her blue eyes showed a hint of fatigue; it seemed her daughter had worn her out quite a bit.

Looking at Tokai Shizen like this, the question Representative Chiaki had originally intended to ask was cut short.

Although they had only interacted for two days, Representative Chiaki did feel something from Tokai Shizen. Though she couldn't quite put her finger on it, she definitely felt something.

So, Representative Chiaki asked a new question.

"Do you want to see Rudolph?"

Facing this question, what flashed through Tokai Shizen's mind was the mere one-day marital affection from last year.
