Chapter 5 - God eyes

The whole hall was in turmoil as Chuck could be seen passed out, as little visible smoke could exited the surface of his skin. The mages present had an idea of how strong Kaiden was. But seeing her in action? It was surreal.

Despite that, the students had all had one question in mind.

Why didn't Zhul step in to stop the attack? Chuck was obviously not strong enough to counter a flame as powerful as Kaiden's, but he didn't step it before things got critical.

But there was one thought in Zhul's mind, lingering like a brewing storm. The students couldn't feel or detect the raging energy in Chuck, mainly because they were low staged mages.

But as of this moment, Zhul didn't have the time to drown in his suspicion.

"Kaiden, you caused this mess. Take him to the infirmary now. And make sure the healer takes care of him properly," Zhul quickly spoke in the middle of the noise.

Kaiden, hearing Zhul blame her for roasting Chuck, suddenly shot up with rage.

"What! Weren't you the one that picked his weak ass to fight me? And why didn't you step in before I toasted his ass? Huh?"

Zhul shifted his gaze from Chuck, slowly to Kaiden, "If you do not get him to the healer, I'll make sure you get the same level of burns. Now, take him to the infirmary!" Zhul yelled with an authoritative tone.

Feeling defeated, Kaiden controlled the air around Chuck. Wind swirled around Chuck's being, as he was slowly lifted up from the ground. With an intense speed she flew off into the distance, with passed out Chuck, hovering right behind her.

"As for the rest of you, if you think this little event will stop you from training till your body gives up on you, then you are very mistaken."

"Pick your spot, and get to work!"

Chuck, still very unconscious, could hear faint dings in his head.

Slowly lifting up his eye lids, the white ceiling of the infirmary reflected on the surface of his eyes. He could feel the immediate searing pain on his body, as he tried to move a little.

"Wha… what happened? And where the hell am I?"

Chuck turned his head slightly, and just enough to get his bearings.

"That gorgeous piece of shit. She really did a number on me. It was way worse than I had anticipated," Chuck groaned.

Trying to take on the excruciating amount of pain that he felt, he slowly lifted his body up and began to check out his body. He had been healed completely, but he still felt extremely sore.

His whole body felt like it was still on fire.

"But why did I even agree to fight against her? Ohh right. The system. The stupid quest," Chuck remembered as he concentrated on the system interface.

In a split second, the familiar transparent screen appeared in his line of view.

/Daily quest completed>> reduce your HP by 50 percent/

/Reward>> 30 exp/

/Weekly quest completed>> reduce your HP by 80 percent/

/Reward>> 50 exp/

Chuck proceeded to concentrate on his stats. The easier way to navigate the system was to use his hands as a cursor, but he could afford being seen in public making hand gestures in the air. People would think he was crazy.

/Name>> Chuck Nectar/

/Race>> human/

/Class>> mage/

/Stage>> neophyte/

/HP>>9/10/

/level>> error. User is too weak to be given a required level/

/Exp>> 80/100/

/Skill>>???/

/Mana pool>>100/100/

"My exp is almost maxed out. I wonder how strong I will get once I hit the max. I need new ways to increase my exp," Chuck thought.

"I was hoping to get into a scuffle with Bobby, but I got this Kaiden of a wench," Chuck sighed.

"If I'm correct, the quest to deplete my HP by 50 percent will come up again tomorrow. I just need a lesser way of inflicting pain on myself. I can't go through this torture again."

Chuck could almost feel the strange energy inside him. The only problem was the fact that he could but access it. The system didn't even show him a way on how to use the power, and it was starting to get on nerves.

"Maybe there is something I can try," Chuck thought with hope in his eyes.

Concentrating very hard, and trying to mask out the ever growing pain on his being, he closed his eyes.

There were several talented mages that could focus their eyesight to the point where they could see the flow of energy, mana, and other universal forces.

This skill was called the god eyes. It wasn't something that all the mages could attain, as it had nothing to do with how powerful one was.

Attaining the power of god eyes depended solely on a person's ability to focus without an iota of distraction. In order to achieve this easily, mages usually kept their eyes closed.

This way, they could get distracted by their surroundings.

Chuck calmed his body and tried to empty his mind. After a few minutes, the darkness that surrounded his eyes started to shift into something else.

Faint runes of light became visible to his closed eyes. He could see the whole room, except everything was orange in color.

This was what mana looked like.

"Yes! I finally did it!" Chuck celebrated. But he celebrated too early.

As quickly as the view of his surroundings came, it disappeared like it was never there.

"No! I lost focus. Damn it!. I need to try again"

Chuck regained his composure and began to meditate. It didn't take long before he could see the orange colored energy particles, swirling around him.

He lowered his head slightly to take a glance at his body.

Chuck was immediately surprised at what he saw. Streams of red runes, entangled with runes that seemed to have a golden shimmer could be seen. The two energies traveled through his body with a smooth motion.

The normal energy that mages possessed was red in color. So when Chuck saw a golden energy also in his being,he knew what it was.

"This must be the foreign energy from that night. Strange, my body isn't doing anything to fight it off."

Chuck began to think of new theories as to what the energy was, but his thoughts were quickly cut off as he heard the sound of a door knob getting twisted.

Quickly dismissing the god eyes, his eyelids opened, to greet someone he didn't expect.

"Chuck Nectar, it's high time we have a civilized conversation, don't you think"

Chuck frowned slightly with suspicion.

"Teacher Zhul?"
