"[Water Arrow Scattershot]!" Chanted Trey, firing out a barrage of piercing water projectiles, the Monsters swiftly scattering and flying back to evade the attack, a screech of pain ringing out as a water arrow plunged into the leg of one of the Monsters.
"
These things are Sonic Bats, Low Level Monsters, and looking at their stats, they're not all that strong.
They're especially low in Vitality, they don't have much Strength either, though their Agility and Perception are fairly high.
They were much bigger than regular bats, their bodies spanning about five feet from head to toe and were somewhat humanoid, they had long, slender legs with sharp, curved claws, sleek, wide wings and razor sharp fangs.
As one of the Sonic Bats swooped down, the Lancer swiftly stepped forward and drove his spear forward, a deafening howl of pain ringing out as the blade of his spear plunged into the middle of the Monster's chest before it could react.
It struggled and thrashed about in agony as it tried to pry itself free from the blade, before going quiet as Trey swung his staff across and unleashed a slashing wave of water, slicing through the Sonic Bat's neck and decapitating it, its head hitting the ground and rolling away.
The Lancer pulled his spear back out as the Monster went limp, swinging it across to get the blood off, while the remaining four Sonic Bats spread out and narrowed their eyes at us.
Suddenly, they snapped open their jaws and unleashed powerful, high-pitched sonic screeches towards us, before Trey stepped forward with a cocky smirk.
"[Water Wall]!"
A wide wall of water rose up above him as the waves of ringing sound closed in, the water absorbing and dampening the sound.
Huh...he was so on edge when he fought that Goblin last week, so I'm surprised by how well he's maintaining his composure.
I wonder what changed? Maybe killing the Goblin gave him the confidence he needed?
But there is a downside here...and this is, the better he performs, the more bloated his ego is going to get.
As the Monsters' attacks petered out, Trey took down his water wall before unleashing another volley of water arrows, the Monsters zipping around and weaving across the space, a few of his attacks grazing them, but he couldn't land a direct hit.
His attacks are fast and powerful, but his aim is a bit off. Sonic Bats are pretty fast and agile in the air, so he's going to need to do a lot better than that.
Two of the Sonic Bats swooped down and shot forward, zipping towards Trey and the Lancer.
Trey swiftly fired out a pair of water arrows towards the pair of Monster, hitting the one charging at him square on the middle of the head and killing it.
The Lancer began to step forward to intercept the other one, before quickly stopping as Trey's second water arrow shot ahead of him, grazing the Monster's side before it let out a sharp screech and whipped its claws across at the Lancer, who let out a slight gasp of pain as a couple of shallow cuts appeared across his chest, the Monster's claws slicing through his armor.
He gritted his teeth before whipping his spear across with a flick of his wrist, slicing the Sonic Bat's throat open as it began to charge up a sonic screech, fatally wounding it before it could attack.
"Careful, you almost hit me!" He snapped at Trey, taking a step back to take a breath and compose himself.
"Huh? I already warned you to stay out of my way, that's your own fault!" Trey shot back, taking his eyes off the last two Sonic Bats.
One of them immediately took the opportunity to rush forward, while the other shot straight towards Trey.
The first one shot past him before he or the Lancer could intercept it, opening its jaws as it locked onto me and the Support Mages.
Yes! I finally get to do something!
As the Monster began to charge up a sonic screech, I swiftly stepped forward, a smirk spreading out across my lips as I chanted...
"
Black, smoke-like energy erupted out of my right shoulder blade, before taking the form of dark, shadowy jaws.
I sent the jaws zipping forward, opening them wide as they closed in on the Monster, before snapping shut around its head before it could react.
Its body went limp as I tore its head clean off its shoulders, plummeting and hitting the ground with a thud, blood pouring out of the stump left around its neck and forming a puddle on the ground.
W-Woah, that felt really good, like a wave of chills flowing into me.
And now...
"
White, smoke-like energy burst forth from my left shoulder blade, taking the form of jaws as well, before engulfing the Monster's decapitated body, consuming all its energy.
Damn, that felt good too, though it's a different sensation to Devour.
Finally, I got to use my Gluttony Skills. Devour consumes physically, and by consuming a living thing, I gain one percent of their physical stats. In other words, if their physical stats come to a total of 100 points, I gain one point that I can allocate to any of my own physical stats.
But I have to consume their entire body to get the maximum out of it. If I only consume, say, half their body, I'll only gain half a point.
As for Drain, it consumes Mana, as well as Spells, Skills and any other Magic-based attacks. And I gain one percent of the energy I consume, which gets added to and increases my MP.
I see, so once my Potential reaches Point A, my rate of growth will slow down, and then slow down even further when my Potential reaches Point B. Got it, I'll keep that in mind.
Right, yeah, you mentioned that before.
Ah, looks like the last Sonic Bat has been taken out.
I drew out my blade and sliced open the chest of the Monster I killed, before prying its Core out. I then proceeded to consume the rest of its body using Devour, that pleasant sensation washing over me again as I consumed the Monster.
Alright, let's see how many points that-...hm?
Everyone's staring at me. Crap, I got so caught up in what I was doing that I totally forgot about everyone else.
Well, whatever, I already expected this once I decided that I wouldn't hide my Gluttony Skills in this raid.
"What...what the hell was that?!" Exclaimed Trey incredulously, breaking the tense silence.
