Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Orientation (Part 3)

"Let's see here, you must be Ariella Velle, the only student with Ace Potential this year. I look forward to seeing how you do," Remarked Glenn, a gleam of intrigue in his eyes.

"I hope I don't disappoint," She smiled in response, as she began warming up.

I should keep a close eye on this fight, her stats are pretty impressive:

Interesting, she's nineteen, making her the oldest student in the group. I wonder why she didn't enroll sooner?

Her insanely high Potential aside, her current stats and Power Level are easily the highest among everyone here, besides Glenn.

Since she's a Combatant-type Hunter of the Brawler Class, she uses her fists instead of weapons.

She had red hair that went down a bit past her shoulders, bright green eyes, a fair complexion, and she was about average height, with an attractive figure.

She looked in pretty good shape, her arms are well-toned and looking at her warm ups, she seems to be rather flexible too. Her current Strength and Agility stats back that up.

She was wearing an unzipped red jacket over a black t-shirt, with black shorts over a pair of sheer gray tights, and she had on black boots that went halfway up her calves.

Hey, Ai, about that Elemental Immunity Skill, does it mean that she's completely invulnerable against Elemental Magic?

Oh, gotcha, the Magic itself won't affect her, but the momentum and force generated will.

Then, those resistance and immunity Skills aren't going to be particularly effective against Water, Wind and Earth Magic attacks, since those forms of Magic inflict physical damage through generated momentum and pressure.

And with Ice Magic, I'm guessing those Skills will nullify the freezing effect, but if, say, an icicle is fired at someone with Elemental Immunity or Resistance, they won't feel the coldness but they'll still get pierced, right?

Cool, so those Skills primarily defend against Fire and Lightning Magic, but not so much against the other forms of Elemental Magic. Interesting.

Alright, now then, let's see how she does...

As she finished warming up, Ariella slammed her fists against each other with a slight, eager smile, loosening up with a couple of quick hops.

She let our a slow exhale, a focused look appearing on her face before she shot forward with impressive speed while chanting something under her breath, the air around her fists shimmering intensely as streaks of flames swirled around them.

Glenn swiftly took a defensive stance as she closed in on him, getting low before driving her right fist towards his stomach, a wooden clack ringing out as her fist collided against the face of the blade.

The blade blackened slightly upon impact, from the heat generated by her fist, before she rapidly twisted her body across and whipped her left foot up towards Glenn's side, her leg shooting up like a spring.

Glenn swiftly leapt back, her foot whizzing past the front of his chest as he evaded her kick.

She was quick to chase after him, unfurling a rapid flurry of low strikes and high kicks, a few of her attacks grazing Glenn, as he weaved back through the space to evade her.

He forced her to come to a halt and spring back as he whipped his blade across at her, missing her forehead by a whisker, before he backed away and got some distance, taking a moment to catch his breath.

Well, now, she's pretty good.

She's a fair bit shorter than Glenn, and she's using that to her advantage. She mixing things up nicely, by initially striking low with her fists, before switching it up with high kicks.

She definitely caught him off-guard with her initial attack, at least a little bit, though he was quick to adjust and react to her subsequent attacks.

Still, while she hasn't landed any direct hits, her sharp movements, complemented by her smooth, fluid combos, is definitely keeping him on his toes.

Ariella then shot forward again, staying low before suddenly leaping towards Glenn as she closed in.

Again, she's mixing things up to avoid being predictable, going for a high strike this time.

"[Flame Strike]!" She exclaimed, driving her left arm forward as she generated intense flames around her fist.

As her fist closed in on the middle of Glenn's face, her eyes widened in surprise as he swiftly tossed his sword up and reached out, grabbing her forearm before her fist could connect and flinging her away, catching his sword as it fell back into his reach.

Ariella swiftly twisted her body across to regain her balance in mid-air, her feet skidding back across the floor a bit as she landed.

Hm, her level of control over her body is impressive.

As someone who trained in competitive gymnastics in my previous life, I know it isn't easy to get that agile and nimble.

Ariella cracked her neck and took a deep breath to compose herself, before she swiftly sprinted forward, Glenn inadvertently taking a slight step back as she began to close in on him.

"Now, [Double Flame Strike]!" She chanted, unfurling a couple of swift, sharp punches as intense streaks of flames erupted around her fists.

A pair of sharp thunks rang out as Glenn blocked her first strike with her right fist, before swinging his sword across with a sharp twist of his wrist to block the second strike.

As her left fist collided against the sword, a couple of cracks spread out the wooden blade as her strikes charred the weapon further, before she swiftly lifted her right leg.

"[Flame Stomp]!"

Glenn rushed to lower his sword as she drove her boot towards his waist as intense flames swirled around her foot, the cracks on the blade deepening and spreading out as the bottom of her boot collided against it powerfully, a cold smile spreading out across her lips as she drew back her right fist.

"[Flame Strike]."

Glenn quickly lifted his blade back up, raising it in front of himself defensively as she drove her right fist forward...before his eyes widened as she suddenly opened her fist, grabbing hold of the wooden blade and swiftly tightening her grip before sharply tugging on it, pulling Glenn slightly off-balance as she drove her left fist towards his face.

At the last split-second as her fist closed in, he tilted his head across to the left, her fist grazing his right cheek and inflicting a slight burn across his skin, before a sharp gasp rang out as Glenn suddenly drove his right knee up, slamming it square onto the middle of Ariella's stomach and knocking the wind out of her.

She got sent flying back a few meters through the air before hitting the floor with a thud, letting out a pained groan as she sat up and rubbed her stomach gingerly.

Ouch, that looked pretty painful...

"U-Uh, I'm sorry, I struck back on reflex! A-Are you okay?" Glenn called out as he rushed over with a concerned frown, a look of guilt on his face.

Her last attack was pretty close, guess she triggered his instincts.

"Y-Yeah, I'm fine," She nodded as she got back onto her feet, looking a bit embarrassed.

Glenn had stayed almost entirely on the defensive this whole time, very clearly holding back and pulling his punches. But with that knee strike, for a brief moment, he used his full strength.

I could barely even see it, I spotted a sudden, rapid blur by his leg, and the next thing I knew, he'd sent Ariella flying.

"I really am sorry..."

"Like I said, I'm fine, so you don't need to apologize, sir," She shook her head with a smile, before heading back, a hint of frustration in her eyes.

"Okay, uh...anyway, who's next?" Inquired Glenn with a sheepish smile.

Alright, that last fight got me pretty fired up, I think it's about time now...

"I'd like to go next," I volunteered, stepping forward with an eager smile.
