Chapter 5
"Are you joking? Or is this a play? What do you mean this is A.H. 500?" Vincenzo blurted, shaking his head. "Wait, what... of the Demon Lord? He was defeated by the hero, Alexander Ashford Vicious?"
She looked him over, a worried frown creasing her brow.
I was defeated by him. A cold dread pooled in Vincenzo's stomach. But he killed me! What happened after I died?
"Vincenzo, you're scaring me. Are you sure you're okay?" she asked.
"Yeah, I am," he replied, trying to sound calm, and ran a hand through his hair. "Let's go to class."
He stepped into the corridor and immediately turned right, starting to walk the wrong way.
"Vincenzo, where are you going?" she stopped him. "This is the way to class."
"Oh, I just wanted to check something," he replied, quickly falling in behind her. Since when did they start counting from A.H.? What does it even mean?
"Hey Vincenzo, I know you aren't that smart, but that's the first thing they taught us in school: A.R., After Reign," she explained, rolling her eyes. "That's what we call it, after the hero defeated the Demon Lord."
So I'm the hero who defeated the Demon Lord, he thought, his jaw clenching. He tried to keep his voice low. "But in reality, I was killed by him... or was it that bastard? I should have known with his last statement."
"Did you say something?" she asked.
"No," he mumbled. "So, where are we going?"
"We are going to combat class."
"Combat class," he muttered, managing a small, wry smile. "I guess not everything changed in five hundred years."
"Um... Vincenzo, are you sure you are okay?"
"Yeah. Probably, in a way."
