The atmosphere at the Voltex shifted as a seizing chill dropped the temperature. The group couldn't feel themselves; trapped under the remnants of a spell, none of them could decipher what was happening.
They moved like zombies, sluggishly pushing through a narrow road that was crumbling to pieces beneath their feet. No sounds came from them, save for the whining of Tilda, who kept calling out for her father.
Maya and Jordan observed Lucas and the others, noticing something strange: none of them were talking about Travis. Why were they leaving without him?
"Lucas, why are we going without Travis?" Jordan questioned. Lucas, who was leading them toward an unknown destination, stopped and gave him a look but offered no answer. Kai and Derek remained equally silent, shockingly indifferent to Travis's absence.
Jordan saw that something was deeply wrong. "And now that we're at it, can you both come and carry your kids? This isn't my full-time job, you know," he grumbled.
