"I am level 7 now, haha!"
Feeling it firsthand how my body improved in strength, flexibility, and other aspects, I couldn't help but gladly laugh over it.
"Me, too!" Daniel said beside me.
We had spent all night hunting and killing any monsters that we thought were manageable for us. With each level we got, our stats raised, making our bodies move more fluidly, our bones sturdier, our muscles more powerful, and our claws deadlier!
By now, when the morning came, we had already killed over 100 weak Rank 1 monsters each. Every Rank 1 monster we killed granted us one Experience point. Even with the required EXP to level up that would double after every level, over 100 EXP would still push me and Daniel to level 7 quite easily.
"By the way, what is this upgradeable thing?" I muttered while looking at an option that suddenly showed up beside my Claw Skill, which continued to rise in mastery and power after I used it excessively.
"It is to evolve your skill to a higher level. I did it before. There are three options for upgrading. I chose Long Claw, by the way," Daniel replied, which shocked me.
"What!? You've upgraded your skill already? Why didn't you tell me before?"
I already noticed the appearance of the upgrade option earlier, but because I'm not sure whether it's safe or not, I hesitated to tap it. Who could imagine that Daniel had chosen his own option while I am wasting my time? He's as reckless as usual, huh!
Seeing me agape in shock, Daniel activated his skill and stretched his long claw, which now had a length of more than 15 cm, and already looked stronger than my Claw.
"Just try it," he suggested casually.
Looking at his Claw, it is clear that this option was completely safe. Damn, I am overthinking this, don't know if I'm just wasting my time!
I immediately tapped the upgrade option.
[You have chosen the option to upgrade your Skill: Claw.]
[Please choose from these growth paths:]
1. Steel Claw.
- Enhance your claw, making it as hard and sharp as steel.
2. Long Claw.
- Elongate your claw, make it harder, and able to cause a deeper wound.
3. Venomous Claw.
- Add venom to the tips of your claw, make it deadlier.
"So you choose the second option?" I asked Daniel.
"Yep. The original length of our Claw is just too short," he answered.
I couldn't say that I am not agree with him at that point. Could deal deeper wounds, sure, critical in battle. You could kill your opponent faster with that. With our current Claw, it is indeed deadly and sharp enough, but it could only cause scratches to your opponents, which was just... Irritating. Maybe if we had weapons, we could make do with them, but since we didn't, we could only use our claws.
However, I think other options are not less interesting than Long Claw. After thinking it through for a while, I tapped my choice.
[You have chosen Venomous Claw as your Skill: Claw growth path.]
[Skill: Claw is now evolving to Skill: Venomous Claw...]
[Successfully evolved Skill: Claw to Skill: Venomous Claw!]
[Your skill growth path has been changed!]
As soon as I heard the notifications, I started to feel something shifting inside my fingers. More particularly, it was near where my nails grew. I feel like something cold was poured into it, which then changed my nail color slightly, adding green tips to it.
I stared at my nails, which had grown slightly longer and had green tips even without the skill activated. When I activated the skill, my nails began growing and sharpening until they stopped at a length of 9 cm, 4 cm longer than before. It also looked harder than before, although of course still far from as hard as steel.
"Oh, so that's how Venomous Claw looked?" Said Daniel.
"Yeah, pretty cool, right?" I replied.
"Not as cool as mine, of course."
I rolled my eyes at his smug words. I ignored his questionable statement and set my attention to our surroundings instead.
"Anyway, how about more hunting?" I suggested.
Since we could evolve our skill when the mastery is maxed out, I now began expecting that we could also evolve ourselves when we reached level 10, which is our max level. Level up alone had improved this body's comfort level, I can't wait to see what would happen after we maxed out our level!
The thing is that we need 64 EXP to level up from Level 7 to Level 8, so it's gonna take some time, maybe days, or a week. Anyway, since our zombie bodies only needed a little amount of food and never felt exhaustion, we could do all-nighters just fine. After all, the faster we get stronger and find the girls, the better.
Daniel must've thought about the same thing since he immediately agreed to my suggestion.
We continued our way to the east, aiming toward the setting sun, we could see beyond the sea of trees, which peeked shyly from behind the cover of mountains.
We didn't need a long time before we found our next prey. One of the most common monsters we had encountered during our time wandering this forest.
Macrum Monkeys. Three of them were atop a tree of unknown fruit, which looked somewhat like a Durian.
They are seemingly trying to open up a ripe Durian, but they didn't know how since their claws were not hard enough to open it. And of course, they didn't look so weak and starving as the first Macrum Monkey we met before.
Having killed tens of them, we had already mastered the most efficient way of hunting those small-brained creatures.
We respectively pulled out an apple-like fruit from our pockets and began slowly walking to the clearing near the tree where those Monkeys were hanging.
"Hey, guys~!" I smiled, calling them out seductively.
"Wanna some juicy fruits~?" Daniel followed after me.
We show our apples towards those Monkeys, attracting their attention with playful moves, bouncing the apples upside-down.
The Monkeys' eyes drew from the Durian they had in front of them toward the apples we had. One of them even began salivating. They always looked so desperate for food, despite not being as starved as the one we first met. I wonder why? I pondered so while waiting until they caught our lure.
And then—
One of them yelled at us, pointing at our apples frantically.
Alright, it's time!
We then simultaneously throw the apples toward them, forcing them to focus on the apples and jump down to catch the apples we had thrown at them.
The two apples were then caught by them, but one of them was not lucky enough and failed to get either of the two apples in its hands.
The three of them landed on the ground at the same time, their focus still on the apples.
Right at that very moment—
We moved.
Claws drawed.
Daniel with his Long Claw, and I with my Venomous Claw.
Daniel swung his Claw, gouging out a chunk of a Macrum Monkey's neck, making it bleed, reducing its life span to only several minutes left.
I drew my Claw, sliced the neck of another Macrum Monkey. Not enough to deal a fatal wound like Daniel, but enough to transfer enough venom that could weaken and kill it within minutes.
We then shifted our attention toward the last Macrum Monkey, who could only look at US in confusion, seemingly had not yet fully assessed the situation in its little brain.
We aimed at its neck, each swing gouged a big enough amount of meat, killing it instantly.
I have not received any notification after it died, so it's Daniel who got the EXP.
