Meryl's POV
The words hit me like a physical blow.
"A werewolf."
My entire world tilted sideways. I stared at my father, waiting for him to laugh, waiting for this to be some twisted joke. But his expression remained deadly serious.
"What did you just say?" My voice came out as barely a whisper.
His eyes met mine, filled with something that looked like grief. "You're a werewolf, Meryl. I'm sorry."
The air rushed out of my lungs. "That's impossible." I shook my head violently. "I'm human. I've always been human. My whole life, I've never shown any signs of being anything else."
Dad's shoulders sagged like he was carrying the weight of the world. "You are human. But you're also something more." His voice was so quiet I had to strain to hear him. "You carry werewolf blood."
