Chapter 12 - Immortal Janitor

Noah, finally alone in the sterile quiet of his hospital room, stretched his arms above his head, cracking his joints. The lingering despair from his family's visit faded, replaced by a nervous, analytical curiosity.

"Now," he muttered to himself, his voice low. "Let's see what kind of Janitor I am."

He mentally summoned his status window.

A crisp, blue panel shimmered into existence in his vision, private and visible only to him.

πŸ“‹ Personal Information

──────────────────────────────

Name: Noah Chambers

Age: 27

Race: Human

Gender: Male

Occupation: None

Affiliation: None

Awakening Rank: F

Class Rarity: Primordial

Class Name: Janitor

Title: β€”

Status: Newly Awakened (Level 1).

──────────────────────────────

Noah's eyes widened as he read each detail. "Hmmm... looks alright." Then his gaze locked onto the Awakening Rank.

"What? I'm F?!" he said, his voice cracking. "I expected... I mean, my Class Rank is Primordial... my Awakening Rank should be higher too, right?" The dissonance was jarring. A Primordial class should, by all logic, come with an S-Rank Awakening, or at least something that didn't scream 'bottom of the barrel'.

He deflated, all the earlier manic energy gone. "Ahhh, shucks. I knew the Primordial part was just a damn joke. A cosmic-level prank. If my stats are just F-Rank, then it would be right to say my class is basically just Common too."

He continued reading, his disappointment growing. "Huh... no Title. Not that I expected 'The Man Who Got Stabbed' or 'Ant-Kebab'. Anyway, let's move on to the stats."

The panel transitioned.

🧬 Base Stats

Attribute Value Rank

──────────────────────────────

Strength (STR) 10 F

Agility (AGI) 9 F

Endurance (END) 12 F

Vitality (VIT) 11 F

Mana (MNA) 8 F

Perception (PER) 13 F

──────────────────────────────

Total Stats: 63

Evaluation: Human Average

"It really is F-Rank," Noah whispered, horrified. "Normal F-Rank Player total stats are average 40 to 60 and a highly specialized class would have their class specific attributes that go way up towards the average attribute of E-Rankers, sacrificing other attributes for maximum effect. But looking at mine? Jeez. Human Average. My STR is 10. I had that before I Awakened, just from working out at the UNPA gym."

He slumped back against the pillows. "Oh my god. It's not like I really Awakened at all. The System just gave me a UI and a death wish. Well," he sighed, "at least I have mana. Eight points of it. Barely enough to cast a 'Dampen Mop' spell, probably."

He scrolled down, his expectations now rock bottom. "Now let's look at the skills. This is where it's gotta be... right?"

His eyes widened.

──────────────────────────────

Essence Sweep (Active)

──────────────────────────────

"A janitor's work starts by cleaning the battlefield."

Collects Essence Residue from slain creatures or monsters.

Restores small amounts of HP and Stamina per sweep.

Small chance to recover stat and skill fragments from corpses.

──────────────────────────────

"It really is for janitors," he said, his voice flat. "What the fuck? Did I get fired from my UNPA job just so I can work for the System? Why me? Is there a cosmic quota for 'Mop-Wielders' I didn't know about?" He imagined himself following in the wake of an A-Rank party, sweeping up monster guts. The 'stat and skill fragments' part was interesting, but it felt like a consolation prize.

He sighed and scrolled down further.

──────────────────────────────

Cleanse (Active)

──────────────────────────────

"A clean space is a safe space."

Removes toxins, dirt, blood, and low-tier curses.

Grants temporary 40% resistance to corruption or disease.

Effective in party support and post-battle recovery.

──────────────────────────────

Noah dismissively waved his hand. "Yeah, yeah, I know. Cleaning up dirt and blood." He paused, re-reading the text. "Though... 40% temporary resistance against corruption or disease is... promising. And it's not surprising, as I..." He analyzed the description. "Wait. 'Effective in party support'... and 'Removes toxins... and low-tier curses.' Ahhh, so I can basically purify poison and, well, curses. Okay."

Noah nodded, his analytical mind clicking. "At least it's decent. That's more than a Healer class can do without a specific skill. But it doesn't say how much poison it removes. Does 'low-tier' apply to the curses and the toxins? Does that apply to high-tier poison somehow, or just the low-tier stuff?" He dismissed the thought. "Anyway. Better than nothing. Let's move on."

He scrolled down to the third skill. His eyes widened. A slow, victorious smile spread across his face.

"Hahaha," he breathed. "Finally! Something good came out. Something that isn't just... cleaning."

──────────────────────────────

Reconstruct (Active)

──────────────────────────────

"If it's broken, just fix it."

Repairs damaged objects, gear, and minor injuries using collected Essence.

Efficiency depends on Mana and Essence quality.

Can restore fallen allies if their soul remains within range (extremely limited).

──────────────────────────────

Noah read it slowly, his eyes getting wider with each line. He shouted, his voice echoing in the small room, "WHATT??!! THIS SKILL CAN REPAIR GEAR?! RESTORE FALLEN ALLIES?!"

He was stunned. "What kind of absurdity is this? Now, wait a goddamn minute. Isn't this too OP? Because I know damn well it doesn't specify any restrictions on gear ranks. My dad's Runesmith class can repair gear, but it takes him hours and a full forge. This just... does it. Though I get it, it uses Essence and Mana, and the cost technically varies with the rarity of the gear, but... are you telling me it's possible?!"

And then, the last line. "Restore fallen allies." That wasn't just healing. That was a resurrection skill, even if limited. High-tier Priests would kill for that.

He laughed, a sharp, giddy sound. "Hahahahaha! What a deceptively good class this is! I can't believe this shit. Hang on, let's look at the last one."

He scrolled down for the final skill. His eyes widened in absolute, profound shock. He just paused, frozen, for a full ten seconds, the implications washing over him.

──────────────────────────────

Persistence Protocol (Passive)

──────────────────────────────

"So long as there's dust, I'll still be here."

Revives user upon death using 10 Essence units.

Essence cost increases per class evolution.

Grants 3 seconds of invulnerability after revival.

Consumes stored Essence permanently per use.

──────────────────────────────

He spoke, his voice a low, dangerous whisper.

"WHAT. THE. FUCK."

"This is insane. This is a respawn mechanism from a game. The price doesn't matter... 10 Essence units? That sounds cheap. If you're telling me I can't die as long as there's Essence... this must be the one. This is what resurrected me. Because I'm sure I died from that scorpion ant. I felt myself die."

Noah's mind was racing, connecting the dots. "Technically, I died. Then I Awakened. And then this skill activated. But I don't have any Essence... unless... unless the System fronted me the cost? A free introductory revival? Or maybe... maybe 'Essence Sweep' works on a conceptual level? Did I 'sweep' the essence from the crystal I destroyed right before I died?"

He started smirking, a dark, devilish grin spreading across his face as the implications of his cosmically-derided, F-Rank, Primordial-Rarity class settled in.

"I'm half-technically... immortal."

"Hahahahahahaha."
