Chapter 10: The Center of Attention

The moment I sat down on my seat, I could feel it — dozens of gazes falling on me all at once. The room was filled with whispers and stifled giggles. Every girl in the classroom had turned their eyes toward me, their expressions a mix of curiosity, admiration, and disbelief.

Across the room, a girl named Saeko Arisawa couldn't take her eyes off me. She was usually calm and quiet, one of those top students who never broke focus. But right now, her mind was far from her textbooks.

Oh my god… he's so beautiful… she thought, staring at me as if she was seeing a movie character in real life.

That pale skin, those blue eyes, that silver hair… it's almost unreal. How can someone look like that? I… I feel hot just looking at him.

Aah.. I feel like I'm pregnant just looking at him.

Her face turned slightly red, and she grabbed her pen just to distract herself.

It's like… just seeing him makes me feel warm inside. This is insane. Control yourself, Saeko.

Two girls sitting nearby noticed her frozen expression and whispered to each other.

"Look at her. Saeko's totally gone."

"Yeah, she's daydreaming like she's already pregnant just by staring at him!"

"Don't joke like that — if the teachers hear you saying weird stuff, you'll get expelled!"

Despite the teasing, the truth was that most of the girls weren't any better. I could see them sneaking glances, trying to look composed, but their eyes gave them away.

Some of them looked at me with pure admiration.

Some with curiosity.

And some with a strange kind of excitement.

It's like they're all thinking the same thing, I thought. This world really is upside down.

Many girls were quietly imagining things they'd never dared to before — becoming my friend, my classmate, maybe even something more. Others simply wanted to be noticed, even for a second.

So this is what it feels like to be admired, I thought, a small smile creeping onto my face. It's fun… being the center of attention. Like I'm a celebrity.

My thoughts drifted to my old life — the life I left behind.

In my previous world, I had nothing. No family, no friends, no warmth. I was just a forgotten orphan working every day to survive. But now… now I have everything. A family, people who care about me… and a world that seems to revolve around me.

The class went on quietly, though I could tell no one was really paying attention. Every small move I made — turning a page, adjusting my tie, brushing my hair back — seemed to draw another wave of reactions from the girls around me.

When the bell rang, I took out my phone. There was already a message from my mom.

>Mom:- "How's school, my son? Are you okay?"

I smiled.

She really worries too much.

I texted back that everything was fine, that I was happy, and that I'd already made a few friends. Then I sent the same message to my two sisters, who replied instantly with cheerful emojis and hearts.

I put my phone away as the next class began.

By the time lunch break arrived, the air in the school cafeteria felt different. The cafeteria had two sections — one exclusive for boys and one mixed for both genders. Most boys preferred the private one because it was quieter and safer. But I wanted to see the normal cafeteria, to experience what life among the students was like.

So I walked in.

The moment I stepped through the door, every sound in the cafeteria vanished. Spoons paused midair, conversations cut off, and every pair of eyes turned toward me.

Here we go again, I sighed inwardly.

Hundreds of girls stared, some whispering, some frozen in place.

"Is that him… the new boy?"

"He's even prettier up close!"

"That hair… those eyes… it's like he walked out of a dream."

I walked calmly through the silence, pretending not to notice, and sat down at an empty table near the window.

When I opened my bento box, the aroma instantly reminded me of home. It was my mom's cooking — she'd prepared it herself, even though we had maids and professional chefs at home.

Mom never lets anyone else cook for me, I thought with a smile. Even though she's busy, she still finds time to make my lunch herself. She really loves me more than I deserve.

As I started eating, I noticed a small group of girls walking toward me. Their steps were slow and careful, like they were approaching royalty.

One of them stopped in front of my table, her hands clasped nervously in front of her.

"Um… Haruya-sama," she said softly, "may we sit near you?"

I blinked in surprise.

"You don't have to call me 'sama.' Just Haruya is fine," I said, smiling.

Her face turned pink. "R-Really? Then… may we sit here, Haruya?"

"Of course," I replied.

That was all it took. Within seconds, a few more girls appeared, each holding their lunch trays and waiting for my permission like they were asking for an audience with a prince.

Some offered me their food.

"Haruya-sama, please try mine."

"I made this myself — would you like to taste it?"

It was both amusing and flattering. I accepted a few offers out of politeness, taking small bites and complimenting their cooking. Their reactions were priceless — wide-eyed smiles, nervous laughter, and looks of disbelief.

The way they stared at me made me feel like I was in a movie scene.

So this is how it feels to be adored, I thought. Honestly… it's not bad.

Saeko sat a few tables away, silently watching the scene unfold. She wasn't bold enough to approach me, but she couldn't stop looking either.

He's surrounded already… of course he is, she thought. He's kind, gentle, polite. How could anyone resist that?

But… he doesn't even realize how charming he is. That's what makes him even more dangerous.

I noticed her staring again. Our eyes met — just for a moment.

She froze.

Her breath caught in her throat, and she quickly looked down at her lunch, pretending to eat. But her hands trembled slightly.

He looked at me! Oh no, he actually saw me staring. I'm such an idiot!

I couldn't help but chuckle quietly and went back to my meal.

Cute, I thought.

The rest of lunch passed in a blur of laughter and small talk. The girls kept asking questions — about my hobbies, my favorite food, even my favorite color. Every answer I gave seemed to make them even more eager.

"He's so polite!"

"He said my name! He actually said my name!"

"He's too perfect to be real."

When the bell rang again, I stood up and thanked them for the company. The girls looked like they'd just been blessed by a saint.

As I walked back to my classroom, the hallways went quiet again. Students moved aside to let me pass, bowing slightly as they did. It still felt strange — being treated like someone important just because of who I was in this world.

It's strange, I thought, but maybe I can use this. This world favors men, but that means I have the chance to do something meaningful… to build something real.

I looked back once more, catching a glimpse of Saeko, still sitting there with a soft, unreadable smile on her face.

He really is something else, she thought. Maybe… this year won't be so boring after all.

As I stepped outside, sunlight hit my silver hair again, making it shimmer like white silk. I closed my eyes for a moment and breathed deeply.

Tomorrow will be even more interesting, I whispered.
