Flex in front of the mirror, fix the hair , smirk to your self. Normal day.
Than look at your reflection again. And then you remember.
There`s a raging fire inside your chest.
And it appears in the mirror, a nice glowing flame.
You play with it, trying to make it bigger and smaller, but after a while you put on your shirt and forget about it. That`s how Adam started his mornings for a while now.
The world hasn`t changed much, ever since the angels came down on earth. Sure, the first month or so were very interesting - religions battled on who`s divine beings came down. Atheists started to drink heavily or convert. Countries started to shake, as many of their citizens begun dreaming of "united humanity" or "the apocalypse club" were formed.
You know. people went crazy. For a while.
But then? It calmed down. No more angels on earth - no more problems.
Churches were bigger but that`s the biggest change probably.
Oh one more. Fashion changed.
Since you gotta show it off now, many clothes have holes in the chest area.... Which is really weird in women clothing line now. Orange and red are the new hip color, fireplaces became a trend in house design again.
And maybe dating changed a little too.
Height is important sure, money too but the flames - oh the flames you got are important now. No self respecting man will walk around with a tiny spark around and try to show it off.
But if you have a bonfire inside you? You will be noticed. Some will be jealous, some will wonder if it hurts and some will like you for it.
And obviously, Adam was one of the lucky few. Or he became one.
The day he was given the flames, and every single person on earth with him, his flame was- mediocre. So was Adam - not especially handsome, strong or smart student, with a typical IT degree in progress. But after the "descent", he started to change. He trained, grew bigger and more confident. He finished his studies, left the house and got his own place. And as he became better, so did his flame. Every achievement, small or big, enlarged the flame.
And after a while - confident Adam with confidently large fire, was sitting on a large bed watching the night in the city.
*exhales smoke*
A girl, loosely dressed, came out of the closet.
"So" she spoke with a slight smile "what`s next on the agenda big boy?"
Adam looked at her with a similar smirk
"No idea "short answer.
"Really? All that and no plans? " high raised eybrow "That`s a joke right?"
"Nope "Adam took a sip from a glass next to him "Not for today love"
*inhales smoke *
"And please, not inside. There`s a balcony, just for you" He pointed to the window
The girl rolled her eyes and walked out.
Adam sighed, and finished his glass. He looked at his phone
'weird' he thought as he started to look at the news ' people going crazy again'
His eyebrows furrowed, he took the phone closer to his eyes
'Nah. They joking again'
He scrolled faster. But something was on the news, and a lot of people were posting it.
"Hey Adam?" She shouted from the balcony
"Yeah??" Adam was still confused by the news posts
"You better come see this" she shouted urgently
he looked at the window, then the phone, then window again.
'There is. No F****in way. ' And so he came outside.
And looked at the streets.
Where there was one
Singular
goblin.
Adam looked at the girl, she looked at him
"I`m not high still right?" he asked while pointing at himself
*Slap to the face*
Didn`t hurt but he felt that for sure.
So he looked down again
and there it was still
A small, green thing.
"No I don`t think you are" she replied to him after a while
Around the goblin people were filming, making posts or just starring.
But at some point, someone tried to touch it.
And well, he did.
"HEY GUYS, ITS NOT A HOLOGRAM AFTER ALL" he shouted behind.
and well, when the man touched the goblin with his hand.
The goblin decided to touch the man.
But with his sword.
And blood was spilled.
It wasn`t a short fight either. the goblin was small and weak, but it had a weapon. The man however, no longer had his hand. And he was scared. The guy tried to run away, but stumbled onto a street pole, so the goblin caught up to him quickly.
It raised the blade, smiled, and cut the man`s throat with a brutal but fast slash.
Everybody around was running away.
The girl stood on the balcony, horrified at the scene. she tried to call the police but no one answered.
Adam however stared long and hard, calmly assessing the situation on the street.
The girl took his hand and pulled him out, but he was grasping the railing very tightly.
"What are you doing, we have to run. Its a monster" She was starting to cry.
"I know" Adam answered not so calm anymore. And as he turned around, a smile was forming on his face. And under his face, a very bright red flame was showing.
"I can`t wait"
