Chapter 15 - Beast

Well, she had never thought about being toyed with like a doll. That gigantic creature would raise her just to hit her against the cold floor. That motion continued for a few seconds, until her entire body was a bloody mess.

She could've seen her newfound partner just around the corner. Naevius was healing himself, but wasn't in the best situation either. She felt her back hitting the stone walls, letting a few rocks from the cave ceiling fall on her head.

Every step that creature made, every time he approached her, she could feel his anger.

She couldn't judge him; she would be angry too if someone had broken into her house.

Either way, in the end, it wouldn't matter; she would die here and come back to kill him.

He raised his club, and Mona instinctively closed her eyes, accepting that there was nothing she could do.

As everything went dark, the sound of something hitting the ground was the last thing she heard.

Afraid? She wasn't. In this place, there wasn't a single reason to be; it wasn't real life.

Of course, she could still feel pain from every single wound she had; she felt hunger, and she felt tiredness.

Yet, that wasn't enough to make her give up.

She failed now, but what about when she wakes up? Then she will fight again and this time win.

"Naevius!" A sound that she wasn't expecting came. Wait. She took a few seconds and opened up her eyes.

That creature, instead of giving Mona her final blow. He was… stuck between thorns and vines. Every time he tried to escape, the vines would twirl around his legs and arms, their thorns slowly sinking deeper and deeper into his skin.

Nature was scary; even her strings couldn't cut his skin, yet that simple "tree" could.

"How is he doing?" The boy who controlled the vines asked. Mona could see from the tips of his fingers little sprouts leaving; that was probably the motive that made him touch the ground. Those plants needed somewhere to grow.

"He is breathing, not dead…" She let Naevius into a more comfortable position. "What about the other?"

The boy gave her a quick look, then returned his gaze to Auva. "She's fine. Already awakened too."

Oh yeah, Mona had a lot of questions.

Kanta lifted his hands from the ground, but he didn't look confident enough in them. At the same time, it was the best thing to do. She saw him coming towards her, offering his hand when he was finally closer to her.

"Come on, we don't have all the time in the world right now." She usually hated being the one receiving help, not the opposite. As she tried to get up on her own, she now understood that her pride needed to be swallowed down her throat.

Maybe her body hadn't computed that yet, but now it had finally come to its senses. The pain of trying to put her own weight against two broken legs wasn't the best one, and it sure as hell didn't let her get up.

Kanta caught her before she could've fallen, putting his arms behind her neck and using himself as a cane for the girl.

"Look, we will talk about it later, okay? Right now, I don't want to die, so please, bear for a while."

She couldn't say no; not dying was way better than doing so, but staying with both legs broken? Yeah, wasn't gonna help her

Auva helped Naevius get up, as it seemed that the boy had woken once more. His wounds were already healed; what a broken divine blessing he had. Either way, that would make it easier for them all to run faster.

The vines held that beast way more than anticipated, but without their main roots (Kanta), they hadn't much more strength, and then yielded. And the signal that they had finally given up was the roar that the beast made.

"Let me behind, you guys won't be able to run that way."

That was true.

Maybe the other two didn't see how fast the creature was, but she and Naevius did.

"No," She just didn't expect Naevius to disagree. "I'm tired of fucking deaths in this forest."

"I don't know if you are blind, but my legs are fucking broken." He signed, his hands slightly shaking.

"Yeah, Sherlock, you don't need to tell me." He started staring at Mona's legs, then at the ground, then at himself, as if creating a line of thoughts. "I have an idea, you just have to trust me."

"Are you sure, dude? You were as bad as her a moment ago." He nodded.

Kanta then helped her change from his arms to Naevius, finally resuming their 'escape plan'.

And right on time.

Almost as a small-sized earthcake, every step of that being made everything tremble.

Of course, every tremble Mona felt brought her pain. And would get worse and worse as those tremors were getting closer and closer to them, it was becoming stronger.

"Look, dude, I don't want to hurry you up…" Naevius grinned, he let somewhere between a moan and a huff of anger.

"I know, I never did this before, okay?"

Oh, he was a pile of nerves already, and didn't need anyone else to make it worse and worse. The thing was, his sister Blessing let her heal herself, but she had never tried on other people. So, he was trying exactly that.

The concept of his plan was simple; he needed Mona's trust. That way, he could connect both of their souls, and instead of using his abilities on himself, he would do so on her. Well, it was easier said than done. If the girls' trust in him stopped for just a mere fraction of a second, then it would be all useless.

His healing wouldn't work anymore, and… well, they were fucked.

Actually, they were already fucked as hell, because right now, the beast had seen them
