A year ago in Westchester, a mutant with a mental mutation unleashed turmoil, proving that while some mutants can control their powers, they can still pose a danger to society. Although some argue that Quintavius Quirinius Want ...
"Stop, please stop, okay?" the teacher could barely contain his laughter.
Gary looked at his professor, George Tarleton , a burly, brown-haired man who considered himself one of the smartest students at the university. He was an exceptional mathematician and a good geneticist; he knew more about mutations than most of the students.
"You have an incredible amount of detail here, but you're in an English literature course; I can't look at it and decide if it's a good text," George explained.
"But are the details correct?" Gary asked.
Of course, I like how you've included the references, including the transcript of your visit to the MRD. Science is about information, literature is about presentation and capturing readers' attention. I recommend the most recent cases of mutant manifestations, the Dukes of Texas case, the Petrakis incident in Germany; these have been in the news recently; you'll get points for current and relevant events. Or you could start with the cases you mentioned earlier and the specific figures that back them up. Science is about informing your readers, English literature is about engaging them; your forests should have an impact.
"Wow, thanks for this, Professor, it really helped me," Gary said.
—You're welcome, and if you're going to talk about the Westchester case, call him Quinton Quire , or that nickname the media gave him, Kid Omega?, George asked.
"It seems a little silly, don't you think, giving them nicknames."
"Tell that to Iron Man and Spider-Man," George laughed .
Gary gathered his papers, thanked the professor, and left his office. Suddenly, Elizabeth jumped on him and kissed him on the cheek.
"So, how did it go?" he asked.
"It needs to be completely rewritten, but it's due within two days," Gary said.
"You'll make it," Liz said, kissing Gary's cheek again.
They linked arms and started walking down the hallway. As they left, they saw a van parked in front of one of the dorms. A red-haired girl and two brown-haired boys were putting away their things.
"Should we welcome the newbies?" Gary asked.
"I don't see why not," Liz smiled.
They walked towards the dorm, one of the brown-haired boys had already entered, leaving the elegantly dressed boy and the red-haired girl in the car.
"Welcome to ESU," Gary said.
"Thanks," the brunette smiled. "Harry Osborn, Physics and Business Administration," he offered his hand to Gary.
"Gary, English literature and sociology," the young man said firmly, already demonstrating the basics of the "first greeting."
Liz blushed slightly when Harry took her hand and kissed it.
"I'll go out on a limb and say: act correctly?" he asked.
"No, genetics actually," he smiled as the red-haired girl laughed.
"Not all beauties have to go into acting or modeling, Harry," she said. "I'm Mary Jane, call me MJ, media studies and photography, so by genetics you could be a Curt student." Conner , right?
Liz and MJ shook hands, and Gary noticed Mary give him a firm shake as well. He also noticed her eyes scrutinizing Liz for a moment, regarding her with admiration. After Liz introduced herself, MJ shook Gary's hand as well. To their surprise, the new trio already knew Professor Conners. He worked for Harry's father, an industrialist.
"Norman Osborn, I see it now," Gary thought.
Except for his hair, Harry was identical to his father. After his time at Oscorp , Conners went into teaching. He taught at Midtown High School, where MJ, Harry, and Peter were students.
"He was a great guy, Peter studies genetics too," Harry said.
"When are we going to meet him?" Liz asked.
"Hey, Pete, come down here," Mary shouted toward the window.
Inside the house, Peter had been packing some of his suitcases in his room, pausing to look out the window. He went downstairs and out of the house, waving to the couple. They talked about their courses, the kind of things normal teenagers do. In the middle of their conversation, Gary told them about a party a friend of his was throwing that evening. When the couple left , they continued unpacking. Harry looked over the refrigerator, shaking his head at the antique design.
"I'll get the latest model," he said.
"We'll all contribute, no need to ask Dad," MJ said.
"What's the point of having a rich dad if I can't take advantage of his little interest?" Harry asked.
"Your dad's an idiot, Harry, but at least his moderate interest and zero affection outweigh my dad's zero interest and zero affection, except when he wants me to buy him a beer or borrow money... when I'm out of work (which makes no sense at all)," Mary explained.
"Look MJ, when it comes to whose dad is the meanest, your dad beats mine," Harry smiled.
"You know there are a few more rooms, maybe we should make a frat house, requirement: your dad has to be bad," MJ laughed .
However, Harry shook his head sharply. The redhead stopped and looked over her shoulder. Peter had his back to them, checking the drawers for anything, or so it seemed. He turned around, smiling at his two friends.
"I'm going to go see Conners, catch up with him, see you later," he said.
"Peter, wait, Peter, I'm sorry," MJ said, but stopped when Harry put a hand on her shoulder.
"Come on everyone, it'll be great to see him again," Harry linked arms with MJ and put his arm around Peter's neck, putting him in a headlock.
"Harry," Peter offered stubborn resistance, but finally relaxed as they started walking.
Conners was the best, right? Much better than the guy they replaced. What was his name? Niles ?
"Miles, this is 'Professor Warren,' Mr. Osborn. Should I speak to your father about speaking in class and proper etiquette?" MJ adopted a stern, masculine voice, drawing out a few words.
"Well, you could, but you're probably too busy perverting your students," Peter finally said, breaking his silence, laughing at Harry's response, something that made MJ laugh as well.
