Chapter 5 - The Last Wish

"GUYS, THAT IS NO HUMAN! IT'S A DEMON!" Fred shouted like a crazed being, his face lost color and a chilling sensation ran down his spine.

The figure smiled, his crimson eyes gleaming fiercer.

"Your doom starts now," said the demon, his voice cold like blade, completely devoid of emotions.

Fred immediately braced, his exhausted body and mana pool screaming danger, but he knew he had no other option.

He'd rather die fighting than leaving the new generation in harm's clutches.

The demon looked at the houses and could see the little heads peeping. With an evil grin, he glanced at the beasts and pointed to the buildings.

"Spare no one," he gave a simple order to the enmassed beasts.

Just like that, the beasts completely ignored the old folks and followed the demon's order.

"NOOO!" Fred screamed. His greatest fear came to fruition before his weary eyes.

Fueled by fear and love, he sprang into action, his body obeying despite the fatigueness.

He jumped from beasts to beasts, crushing and clawing to hinder the beasts' progress.

The villagers joined the fray, fueled by the same desperation...

Kyran's POV

"My blade? It's been forty-two years! What are the possibilities?" Kyran was interrogating himself when the demon suddenly rose his head and revealed his colored eyes.

Before him, the sword the demon wielded started pulsating with some kind of unknown red energy.

"Maybe it's not mine. Wait.. it could be the man's beast ability. He does seem powerful..."

His thoughts were cut short when the demon looked at the windows and muttered something that made the beasts move again.

Yes, Kyran gathered information, but never heard anything about demons. When the figure appeared, he had also thought he was some kind of savior.

Kyran had been kept in the dark for long, but the truth was about to be uncovered.

His greatest shock was when the beasts started scaling and clawing the buildings.

He was confused until he heard his father's voice.

"Kyran, RUN!"

A Soldier Hornet had found its way to the window, its wings beating frantically.

Kyran dashed out of the room without a word, his heart had found its way up his throat as it raced frantically. He soon found the door and pulled the knob, only to be welcomed by a Vampiric Snake.

Kyran found himself trapped between two beasts. One threatened to drain him of every ounce of blood and mana, the other threatened to tear and feed on his flesh.

"How I wish I'm not trapped in this body. How I wish I'm with my sword now. This... can't happen again," Kyran muttered, completely puzzled and helpless.

The Vampiric Snake moved first, its fangs and eyes gleaming as its massive body wiggled on the cold floor.

Before it could strike, a claw had found its way on the beast's neck.

It wasn't enough to finish the corrupt monster, but it had created an opportunity for Kyran to escape.

"Kyran, RUN!" Fred snapped his son out of his daze, his voice shaky but absolute.

Kyran maneuvered his way through the curled corrupt flesh and found himself out on the village floor turned to a battleground.

His gaze lingered on his father as he fought valiantly. Two tamers had helped Fred slay the Vampiric Snake, but not without injuries.

Fred's body and the two tamers' were heavily covered with black blood from the beasts and red blood from the injuries they had sustained.

A tamer with wind control sent a gush of wind to the Soldier Hornet. Weak, but was able to disrupt the beast's movement, creating the golden chance for Fred to claw the scartan's throat.

In the end, Fred got another sting on the shoulder, opening a fresh wound as the beast fell to death.

Fred was now a messy look of blood and wet beast flesh that stubbornly clung to his body.

Kyran's heart shattered, the scenario washing old memories over.

"Kyran! GO, NOW!" His father's voiced crashed into his ears again.

"Why? Why can't you come with me?!" Kyran dared to ask, his vision becoming blurry from suspended tears.

"Because you have a job to do, son. You must stay alive and find your way to Valyria kingdom. I know you can do it. Now, GO!" He replied hastily as he jumped on another beast by Kyran's side.

Kyran found it difficult to understand. He knew his father was hiding more, but still followed his orders.

He gave a quick glance to what was a mediocre but happy village—now cursed with blood and dead bodies of beasts and humans. The buildings were partially demolished, young bodies smashed and pinned to the wall like pawns. Despite the collective efforts of the villagers, majority of the innocent kids had been slayed and devoured by the ruthless scartans.

His feet started dashing for the other side of the village, seeking his way out of the nightmare.

He had almost reached the second gate when he risked another glance to find a large worm curled around Fred.

The beast was seconds away from crushing Fred when the demon signaled to the beast.

The demon casually walked to a dying Fred and raised the sword high above his head.

"For making the job harder." The man declared before swinging the blade down on Fred's neck in one move.

Fred's eyes were still opened when his head disconnected from his body, falling with a wet thud.

"NOOOOOOOO!!!" An agonizing yell ripped from Kyran's throat as his legs ran back to the cursed ground.

Elena dashed out of her spar and intercepted him. She fell on her knees before him with heavy eyes laced with tears.

"No, Kyran. We've chosen this. It's our..." she attempted to say something before a Black Rhino shot a dark horn into her from behind.

The lethal horn bored a deep hole into her stomach, splattering her warm blood on Kyran's face.

At that moment, Kyran was lost of words. His throat was shut tight from despair.

"It's... okay," Elena gave the gentle smile Kyran had been accustomed to and coughed blood. "I know... you must grow strong and end this. Promise to avenge us, my sweet hero."

Kyran nodded as streams poured from his eyes.

"Now, go." Elena said before her eyes dimmed. Her beast manifestation receded and her last breath escaped her.

Kyran's eyes were still teary, but a new resolve pushed him. He hastily stood and dashed out of the village, on his way to a new journey.

However, he had one thought etched to the back of his mind...

"I swear with everything I have, they'll all pay! I'll come back stronger and destroy them all. Blood will be spilled in your name, parents."
