Chapter 3 - The Beginning (II)

'You must work hard Laine. We need to serve the King. A descendant of our savior.'

My mother always said that. I believed her—the history from decades ago is still popular until now. Some didn't believe; some did.

I was one of the people who believed.

At first, King Louise seemed promising. He was bright when I first met him. He was loud, though—I liked him.

Then came Isabella, a woman from a neighboring Kingdom. King Louise fell in love.

You see, Isabella was a woman with men wrapped around her fingers. She was the beauty at the time. Long shiny silver hair, diamond purple eyes, and she would always wear dresses that suited her.

I thought to myself, maybe if i'm Louise, I could see what he saw in that woman other than a beauty. I guess he just fell with her beauty.

Half amongst the society knows her 'bad self'. They said, she would always gossip around about other girls. They said, she would torture servants even if it's a small mistake. As if all of them didn't do that.

Anyways, I worked hard. Really hard. Noon, day and night. To SERVE the King. To be by his side. Just like what my mother and the rest of the family told me.

But then what happened? They all died.

It was a happy day. Father went to a gathering of high rankings. Suddenly, knights swarmed the estate.

They put on their guard... Against us? Seriously?

I couldn't believe it. Before the knights ambushed our home, my mother forced me to run when I didn't want to go.

If I have to go, then I need to be with them.

'Laine, there's an inn not too far from here. Tell them you're my son, they'll take care of you no matter what!'

Tears ran down my cheeks as I ran towards the forest. Indeed, it led me to a busy street. Seemed like the people don't even know what's happening. I searched for an inn everywhere. Finally I found one, in a small alleyway, there's an entrance.

And so I tell them that i'm my mother's son.. Their faces went pale. I guess they knew.

So that's how my life is now. Living in an inn, making a living by working with the old man, changed my appearance.. UNTIL SUDDENLY I'M CARRIED BY A STRANGER?

To where? Work for the corps? I don't want that!

I need to search for a way to get out somehow. But right now maybe not the best time.. I'm surrounded by buffed men, what the hell have you guys been doing in the corps training..??

Setting that aside, I think I might be able to survive here. Since my body's fine for work out and heavy activities.. I'll be glad if they teach me how to wield guns too.

Tomorrow, I'll sharpen my skills first, then I'll kill 'em all!

I'm just kidding. No way I can beat all of them.

Half are on their way finishing 100 push ups, the other half are under training with swords, and the others are on some type of parkour!

I'm here stuck thinking which part am I???

"You there! Why aren't you moving?" A loud voice called. It was the big man who brought me here.

"What? Surprised to see a weak man?" Laine responded, sweats running down his skin.

The man stares at me once again, and lifts me up. Laine isn't surprised by his actions anymore.

"Where are we going now?" Laine asks, hoping the man would answer.

"You're going to a special training."

Laine's face freezes,

 'What..?'

Minutes after seconds, they finally arrived. The man puts Laine down on a soft ground.

"What place is this?" Laine asks.

"First of all, my name's Christian. Call me Commander Christian. Or whatever you'd like." The man finally speaks about himself.

"An old man signed you up for this training. I guess that he's your guardian?"

"An old man..? Was he bald?"

Christian freezes a moment after hearing the question,

 "No.." he replies.

'Damn that old man! What could he possibly gain from signing me up in this training??' Laine's mind raced.

"He explained everything to me. How your family was.. Killed."

Upon hearing that, Laine's face shows madness. He takes out a dagger and points it at Christian.

"As dumb as he is, I don't think he would even tell you that."

"See? You do have a talent." Christian twitch my wrist for my dagger to slip from my hand.

"But you still have a lot to learn."
