Thum, Thum, Thum, Thum.
The wings of the fun above me spun counterclockwise and I laid on my back counting how many times they spun.
Thum, Thum, Thum.
"Annabeth!," I heard Tommy's voice call for me from the other room. I sat up too quickly because my head spun with the shift and i called back to him loudly.
"Come here, I need your help." He called again.
I walked to the adjoining room to find him with his paintbrushes in his hands.
"What are you painting?" I wondered, the canvas was blank.
He shrugged his shoulders.
"I don't know yet, my uncle asked me to paint something to gift to the new Lycan general when he visits in two days but I don't know what to make."
His uncle, whom the rest of us called 'Alpha' was a strict man, but not one tenth as intimidating as the new Lycan general.
The canvas was large, he would never be able to finish the work in two days. I told him this and he glowered at me.
"If I start now, I might be able to but the problem is I have absolutely no idea where to begin, this needs to be amazing, it's a peace offering to the general, you know my uncle doesn't get along with other leaders."
"What do you need my help with anyway? You know well enough i can't even draw a flower, I don't know what you want from me." I said carefully not wanting to anger him in his anxious state.
"I know you aren't a painter, but you're the most creative out of the two of us. So tell me what you think I should paint? Please,my head is spinning in different directions." He pleaded.
"Fine, i could try." I sighed and his smile grew. "But you have to give me some time, I need to plan thoroughly." I said to him.
He left me alone for a few moments and I sank to the ground, resuming the position I was before and closed my eyes.
"Pick up the brush." I ordered. I could hear his hands grasp the tool.
"So from the left corner, start with a deep purple."
His fingers began to paint, not understanding fully where I was guiding him but trusting me enough not to question it.
After several hours of inspiration passed, we decided to take a lunch break.
We headed to the pack kitchen to get some food and Tommy insisted on following me. He knew how it was for me here, he always tried his best to protect me from the rest of the pack that hates my kind and my human smell.
I wasn't like them. I wasn't a super strengthened shapeshifter who turned into a gigantic wolf, I was a normal human, not that humans are considered normal around here anymore.
Human beings has come close to extinction since the Lycanthropes and alike took over the whole realm living no place for humanity to strive.
I for one, have been struggling to survive ever since I was four years old, when my parents and I tried to outrun the reign of the Alpha at that time.
He was cruel to humans, enslaved them and made them play toys for his warriors and my parents didn't want such life for me.
Ironically, we were caught and my parents were tried for treason. My father was whipped 100 times, leaving his body in a pile of his bones and his flesh, he would have survived it if the whip was held by a fellow human, but the strength of a werewolf holding the strong leather made it lethal and dangerous. He died at the spot.
My mother was tied to the same post, close to the remains of her husband, and the warriors were given permission to use her as a sexual toy. They ripped her apart, quite literally.
They were rough with her and at one point, after one hour, her spine snapped in half and they put her out of her mystery.
I stood next to the Alpha's mate, Luna Nixie, who held me in place and forced me to watch.
My parents were the first humans caught escaping and the Alpha made sure to set an exam for others who would dare defy him.
The Alpha was older, when I was younger, but when I turned twelve, he passed down his title to his son, Alpha Dorian.
I was kept as his nephews', Tommy's companion since he didn't have any siblings or cousins.
Alpha Dorian didn't have any children of his own, which meant that his title would one day be passed down to Tommy.
Tommy wasn't like every typical wolf, probably because he grew up with a little human girl, who changed his ways of reasoning.
He was mathematical and thoughtful unlike others who were loud, rough and unruly.
He had the physique of an alpha since his mother had Alpha blood in her, and he was very protective of his family and me.
Even though I was raised alongside Tommy, I made sure to keep my human qualities as intact as I could. I taught him music , literature, arts and mathematics and in turn, he protected me from others who would be more than happy to rip me apart.
He had a steady hand, which made painting easy for him. I wasn't blessed with the gift of painting, but I helped him by giving him ideas, and sometimes modeling for him.
The canvas took us seventeen hours to complete and another six hours to completely dry. The colourful canvas of two wolf packs howling at the same moon was beautiful and luxurious.
The Alpha seemed pleased with his work as he inspected the canvas and quickly sent it out to be framed for his guest who would be arriving in less than ten hours.
Tommy hugged me and spun me around happily, thanking me for my help before escorting me back to my room to prepare for the festivities.
My room was plain, just like every other room in the pack house with my little bed by the side, with my desk and chair for my writing sessions.
My comfort wasn't a priority for I was even thankful they allowed me to stay and have a private room for myself.
I laid down on my bed, staring at the fan moving ever so slowly as my eyes gave up as i was welcomed by the darkness.
"Wake up sleepy head!" Tommy Shaked my shoulders and my eyes flew open.
"Mother said we have to get ready for the festivities now, the enforcer arrives in an hour. So get up and take a shower and tame your jungle like hair." He said ruffling my long dark curly hair playfully.
I stood up, stretched and went to freshen up In the bathroom.
I looked at myself in the mirror, inspecting my unruly hair. My hair was kinky, curly and huge. Tommy used to call me a Lion because of the volume of my hair and how it would eat up my entire face.
I tried as much as I could to tame my curls down and part it away from my face and it came out nicely done.
Tommy's mom gave me most of the clothes I had, and managed to add a few to my closet every now and then. Apart from tommy, she's also one of people who took care of me here.
I chose a floral green dress, with my white sandals as my outfit for the night.
I went out of my room when I was satisfied with my final look.
Tommy nodded at my outfit, giving his approval of it.
We both walked downstairs to join the rest of the pack in front of the house. There was a huge crowd, everyone was present.
Tommy held my hands and squeezed softly, assuring me to relax, I smiled at him and let out a little breath.
Everyone was chattering and talking when a series of SUVs drove in, in streams of black. The atmosphere changed and everyone became silent.
The vehicles stopped some feets away from the house and the doors to each car simultaneously opened.
Each man was dressed similarly, in a black suit, white shirt and tie. They were muscular, tall and showed no emotions in their faces. Finally, they gathered around one car in the middle and opened the door.
A man stepped out, buttoned his shirt and scanned the scene around him. He was dressed in a navy suit, a little different from the rest. He stood taller, his aura a little darker than the rest.
I made sure to keep my face down after I had caught a good look at their faces. It was disrespectful for a human to make eye contact with wolves of high power.
"Dorian!" The man greeted loudly as he clasp arms with our alpha. It was a common greeting and as the sound of the clasp rang through the air, the whole pack relaxed visibly.
"Kael, I see you're settling into your role well." Dorian commented.
"Well someone has to keep order." He said vaguely and halfway grinned.
"Tommy, fetch the offering." Alpha Dorian ordered, and Tommy quickly left my side, glanced at me hopefully before making his way to them.
"My nephew has a gift for arts and we hope you can accept this peace offering and wish you well in your regime." Dorian said to him.
Tommy stood behind his work, looking wearily at the enforcer who had little emotions on his face.
"You certainly do have a talent for this." The enforcer said looking at the painting. "Truly I thank you for the effort."
Tommy smiled and turned his head to look at me once more.
"Why do you keep turning to look back?" The enforcer asked him.
A cold chill ran down on my spine upon hearing what had just been said. I kept my head down and prayed he wouldn't notice me. I know he could definitely smell a human admidst the pack of wolves, because they all have enhanced sense of smell.
Tommy cleared his throat. "I meant nothing by it. Sir." He said to him but the enforcer didn't look satisfied with his answer and scanned the crowd accusingly.
"Kael.." Dorian called out, wanting to be in control of the situation.
"Quiet." The enforcer shut him down.
I used my hair to shield my face and wished the ground would open up and swallow me.
"Who were you looking at, boy?" He asked tommy again. Sternly this time.
"Sir." Tommy said softly, from his voice, a little scared I might say.
"Who?" The enforcer growled, trialing closer to Tommy like a predator.
"Annabeth." Tommy shot out as he couldn't take the pressure.
No no no, why did he say my name? He could have mentioned any other wolf's name and not poor me. Why would he out me like this?
"Annabeth?" He asked to be sure he heard correctly and Tommy nodded.
"Annabeth, join us, won't you?" The enforcer called out to the crowd of people.
I let out a sharp spikey breath. I looked up and glanced at two wolves from the pack who looked at me with the same stern look as ever, but this time, they looked somewhat scared as well.
"Annabeth," the enforcer called out again."I don't like being kept waiting." He said and my heartbeat fastened in fear.
Lord of the poor defenseless humans, please help me.
