Emily's POV
Six days. It had been six days since I'd stood in his study doorway and told him I deserved better. Six days since I'd given him one week to decide if he could treat me with basic human decency or if this arrangement was over.
Six days of silence.
Six days of him leaving for work before I woke up and coming home after I'd gone to bed. Six days of empty chairs at the dinner table and unanswered texts. Six days of feeling like a ghost in my own home.
One day left.
Tomorrow, I would have my answer. And I already knew what it would be.
Nothing.
Victor had made his choice through his absence, through his cowardice, through his refusal to even look at me. And I... I had no choice at all.
Because I'd signed a contract. Because I'd taken his money and his protection and his promise to save my mother. Because I'd agreed to play this role for three years, and I am Just starting.
The realization made me want to scream.
