Chapter 285: The Historical Meeting!
A Father-in-Law from the Pentagon
Clark was not very familiar with Lois's family background. He only knew his girlfriend had connections in the Pentagon and could always solve tough cases in a short time.
He had never imagined that the famous General Sam Lane, the General Lane of the Pentagon, would be his future father-in-law.
"Lois, should we... go over and say hello?"
A flicker of hesitation crossed Lois's eyes, and her voice became awkward.
"Clark, I didn't mean to keep it from you, it's just... it's just..."
"It's fine. I understand. No need to explain."
Clark shook his head empathetically, the perfect warm partner. He paused, then asked, "To see him or not to see him?"
Lois was speechless.
What could she do now? The thought of her father's notoriously bad temper, however, left her nervous.
Just as Luke had said, her father detested aliens above all else. If he found out she was dating an alien boyfriend...
Sam Lane was already dealing with headaches over the cooperation. Seeing his daughter suddenly surprised him, but the next second, his gaze—suspicious, scrutinizing, and distrustful—fell upon the unfamiliar young man next to her.
"Who are you? What's your name? Where do you work?"
The military man was direct. Sensing a possible relationship between his daughter and this strange youth, he immediately hit him with the deadly three-question barrage.
Clark quickly extended his right hand.
"Hello, General... Uncle Lane, I'm Clark, Clark Kent. I work at the Daily Planet."
Sam Lane made no move to shake his hand, looking him up and down, scrutinizing him as if examining a deeply unsatisfactory piece of work.
"You're a reporter?"
"Yes, sir."
Clark pulled out his press pass. "I'm an official reporter for the Daily Planet."
Sam Lane glanced at his daughter. Lois nodded like a nervous chicken, her face pleading. Seeing his daughter's expression, the old man reluctantly suppressed his anger and said coolly,
"What are you two doing here?"
"The Daily Planet and Tesla..."
Before Clark could finish his rambling explanation, Lois interrupted him unceremoniously. "We're here to interview Luke Shaw and get a firsthand scoop, Dad. Come on, help us out, throw us some insider info."
Sam Lane shot a look of distaste at Clark, annoyed by the young man's seemingly "clueless" demeanor. However, since it was his daughter's choice, he held his tongue.
"Why do you need insider info? You're the Daily Planet, not a military channel."
"So it is military-related!"
Lois's eyes lit up, like a shark smelling blood. Sam Lane realized his slip-up and turned his head away in frustration. Lois wasn't about to let him go, immediately pressing,
"Is the Department of Defense partnering with Tesla? Is the new product Luke Shaw is debuting a weapons system? What kind of weapon? Alien technology? Dad, just tell me!"
Sam Lane irritably waved her off. "Don't ask me about this. Go find that Asian bastard and have him tell you..." He suddenly stopped, his expression becoming intensely serious.
"You two stay away from Luke Shaw. Do not have any contact with him. He is very dangerous."
"But he already agreed to our interview."
Lois shrugged. "I thought he seemed like a nice guy."
"Nonsense! That kid is a bastard and a devil!"
The Arrival of Giants
Just as he was speaking, a commotion erupted in the distance. Amid a chorus of gasps, a black Rolls-Royce pulled up to the main entrance. The door opened, and a handsome man in a crisp black suit, with impeccably styled hair like a British nobleman, entered everyone's sight.
"Bruce!"
"Look, it's Bruce Wayne, the owner of Wayne Enterprises!"
"Oh my God! He actually came to the exhibition!"
The crowd cheered. The women looked desperate to rush forward; the men covertly sized him up, a mixture of envy and jealousy in their eyes.
Bruce Wayne! The Chairman of Wayne Enterprises, the sole heir of the Wayne Family, and one of the biggest figures in Gotham City. His wealth was rumored to have long surpassed a hundred billion, leading many to believe he was the wealthiest person in the world today.
The reporters immediately abandoned the socialites around them, flocking to Bruce Wayne like swallows returning to the nest. Flashbulbs erupted, snapping pictures from every angle.
In an instant, he became the center of attention.
"The famous playboy billionaire of Gotham actually attends a gathering like this?"
Lois murmured, looking puzzled. Sam Lane frowned tightly, the power of Wayne Enterprises bringing a shadow over his mood. The Department of Defense had to have Tesla's product, and he didn't want any unexpected complications at this final stage.
As for Clark, he maintained his calm demeanor throughout. As a young man of firm resolve, he had long reached a state of being unshaken by either praise or humiliation.
At the main entrance, Luke, accompanied by Philip and others, performed a grand welcome ceremony.
"Hello, Mr. Wayne. It's a pleasure that you could make it."
Bruce extended a firm hand, shaking Luke's.
"I've heard your name for a long time and always wanted to meet you. Mr. Shaw, when you have a moment, I hope we can talk privately."
"Of course! This way, please!"
Luke stepped aside, allowing staff to usher Bruce and his entourage toward the VIP room.
The Grand Finale
At that moment, the crowd erupted again. Reporters swarmed toward the roadside, as if they had discovered a new continent, snapping photos of a long black Limousine driving up.
The Lincoln stretched sedan stopped at the entrance. Its body reflected a dull gleam under the lights, and the matte finish suggested it had been modified with bulletproofing. The rear door opened, and amidst a chorus of screams, the popular singer Britney Spears stepped out.
Dressed in a blue dress, she was radiant, radiating an astonishing charm.
"Britney! Britney!"
"Britney, I love you! Oh, oh, oh!!!"
The crowd erupted in cheers, clearly containing many of her fans.
Britney smiled and waved to the crowd. She then raised her right hand, and a well-built young man in his thirties quickly took her wrist. The young man's bald head was extremely conspicuous, instantly reminding everyone present of his name.
Lex Luthor!
The Chairman of LuthorCorp, a genius boss known for his uncompromising ambition!
"That stretch limo—no mistake, it's really him! Lex Luthor!"
"Breaking news! Huge news!"
"Lex Luthor is dating the American Sweetheart! How long have they been seeing each other? Are they planning to marry?"
The gossip reporters were delirious with excitement, while media reporters scrambled back and forth between Lex Luthor, Bruce Wayne, and Luke Shaw.
"A historic meeting! The Gotham playboy billionaire, the Metropolis genius boss, and the future star of the internet all running into each other under these circumstances!"
"What kind of fireworks will explode between them?"
