Chapter 202: Meeting with the Director
A Surprise Encounter
"Mira, Josie, and Bob the big guy!"
It was unexpected to see the three of them here!
Mira also spotted Luke at the entrance and ran over excitedly, pulling her two friends along.
"What a coincidence! What are you doing here? Are you here for dinner too?"
Mira was as enthusiastic as ever, despite the time that had passed.
Luke shrugged. "I'm here for an appointment."
"An appointment? With who? A man or a woman?" Mira instantly became alert, narrowing her eyes like a small fox that had found something suspicious. "I'm warning you, Emily is waiting for you in Metropolis. If you dare cheat on her, we'll never forgive you."
Luke chuckled. "Of course, it's a man. An old man over sixty named Jack Harvey. If you're interested, you can join."
He then called over the restaurant manager.
"Put their expenses tonight on my tab."
"Understood, Young Master."
Luke patted Bob's thick arm. "Eat whatever you want, have fun, and enjoy yourselves tonight."
He then headed up to the second floor with Adam and Hugo, leaving the three stunned people standing motionless.
Jack Harvey?
The Director's name was indeed Jack Harvey. Their mission brief said the Director was meeting a very dangerous, mysterious person tonight, and they were ordered to ensure tight security and prevent any incidents.
Could that mysterious person be Emily's boyfriend?
What's going on?
Isn't he just a handsome, well-off, and ambitious second-generation rich kid? How could he be "very dangerous?"
The three were utterly confused. Just then, the restaurant manager approached, holding an exquisite, gold-threaded menu. He smiled and said,
"This is a special menu commissioned by our restaurant specifically for VIP clients. It features dishes made from rare ingredients. Since the three of you are the Young Master's friends, you may enjoy anything you like, completely free of charge."
Young Master?
Mira pointed at Luke, who was walking away. She said, her voice filled with shock, "You don't mean that person is the Young Master, do you?"
The manager smiled without explaining but gestured to a dining table on the right.
"Please, this way."
No explanation was an admission. Mira felt a blockage in her chest. She grabbed Josie's arm and shook it hard.
"Josie, did you see that? He called him 'Young Master'! He called him 'Young Master'! It's over, it's all over! No, I have to call Emily, right now! I need to tell her to rush to Coast City. She must keep a close eye on a boyfriend like that and absolutely not let any other seductive temptress get their claws into him."
Josie's face was slightly flushed. She gave the manager an apologetic smile, then pinched Mira's backside hard.
"We're on a mission! A mission!"
"The Director is upstairs!"
Mira snapped back to reality, quickly cleared her throat, and returned to her original spot with Josie and Bob. They needed to stand guard and couldn't be distracted.
To avoid a fate similar to Dick Cheney's, Jack Harvey had taken extensive security precautions. Wherever he went, he was accompanied by elite agents. He had even specifically pulled in rotating shifts of metahuman protectors from the Department of Extranormal Operations.
A Cold Reception
Walking up the stairs to the second floor, Luke was immediately met by two towering men in suits.
They didn't dare frisk him, but they scrutinized Luke with extremely vigilant eyes, as if he were a vicious murderer.
Luke disliked their intense stare. He raised his hand and snapped his fingers.
Adam stepped forward, placing a hand on the shoulder of each man. Their eyes rolled back, and they collapsed softly to the floor.
Thud!
Their large bodies hit the floor. The sudden event completely terrified Hugo. The security personnel on the second floor were also startled, instinctively reaching for their weapons. However, upon seeing Luke's young face, they quickly put their weapons away.
Luke Shaw, the Young Master of Coast City.
Every agent on the second floor had his file and had been strictly warned by the Director not to provoke a conflict with him unless absolutely necessary.
Hugo's legs were trembling slightly. He was afraid of the FBI, but he was even more afraid of the Heir Gang. He couldn't afford to offend either side.
"Luke, I... I..."
"You're done. Go home."
Luke narrowed his eyes, scanned the dining area, and then turned right. He stopped near a window where a man and a woman were seated. The man was handsome and heroic with thick blonde hair. The woman had a somewhat androgynous appearance and a striking pair of flame-like red eyes.
"Standalov? Maeve?"
Standalov looked up, clenching his fists behind his back.
"Can we help you, Young Master Shaw?"
"No need to be tense. I just came to say hello and thank you for your contribution in eliminating Hector."
"Manager!"
The second-floor manager quickly ran over. "Young Master."
"Give them each a gold card. Heroes should be treated like heroes; they must not be neglected."
"Understood. I'll take care of it right away."
"Enjoy yourselves. The night view here is quite lovely."
Luke smiled and continued walking further inside with Adam. The deeper he went, the tighter the security became. After passing two layers of bodyguards, Luke arrived at an eight-seat dining table.
The table was large and laden with all sorts of delicacies, but only one man was enjoying them: a messy, bearded old man. The old man had the red, boozy nose characteristic of Norse people, a forehead lined with deep wrinkles, and a cold, rigid expression that immediately marked him as ill-tempered.
Luke sat down, picked up a steak knife, cut a piece of blood-rare steak, put it in his mouth, tasted it, and immediately spat it out.
"As expected, only a beast would eat something still bleeding."
Jack Harvey put down his knife and fork, looking at him coldly.
"Are you talking about me, kid?"
"Who else would I be talking about?"
Jack Harvey narrowed his eyes, a flash of anger quickly disappearing.
"Your grandfather was an annoyance. You are worse."
"You're white, and I'm gray. White won't tolerate gray, and gray won't tolerate white. You don't want to see me, and I can't be bothered with you. Isn't that perfect?"
Luke poured half a glass of red wine to wet his throat and continued,
"Just get to the point. I've been very busy lately and don't have time to eat with an old man who's halfway to the grave."
Jack Harvey's voice was frigid. "Aren't you afraid I'll arrest you?"
"Arrest me?"
Luke smiled strangely, his face full of undisguised mockery. "With this group of minnows you call subordinates?"
"Old man, you're getting old. Eat less, or you might get a brain hemorrhage."
Bang!
The table shook. A shiny steak knife was stuck in the wood. The surrounding FBI agents immediately turned to their boss. Jack Harvey was breathing heavily, his beast-like eyes fixed on Luke as if he wanted to devour him alive. Luke maintained a faint smile, carving a piece of roast lamb leg and eating it as if nothing had happened.
Time slowly passed in the oppressive atmosphere. After a long moment, Jack Harvey's breathing finally stabilized. He waved his hand, and the people around them all departed.
"Since I took office as Director, no one has dared speak to me like that. Including your grandfather."
Luke took a sip of red wine. "Trust me, after the November election, there will be many, many people who dare to be arrogant in front of you."
