Chapter 85 - Chapter 85 : The Void Ascendant

The nexus trembled violently, fracturing in ways the team could barely comprehend. Each step forward bent reality—stars folded into themselves, corridors twisted infinitely, and distant echoes of planets flickered like dying lights.

Kael's grip tightened on the fragment. "It's preparing… something bigger. I can feel it."

Elyra's eyes scanned the warped space. "The Void isn't just fighting us anymore—it's merging everything it controls into a single entity."

From the deepest core of the nexus, a pulse of energy exploded outward. Shadows and light converged, spiraling into a colossal form: the Void Ascendant. It towered over the fractured layers, a fusion of monstrous hybrid beings, distorted memories of Kael, Elyra, and their allies, and ancient cosmic energy older than most galaxies. Its face was a shifting void, one moment human, the next an alien nightmare. Its limbs were fractals of darkness and light, constantly rearranging, as if reality itself were its body.

Selara gasped. "It's… all of its victims, its prey, and its memories… combined into one being!"

Thane's gauntlets hummed. "And it's huge. We're going to need everything—every trick we've learned—to survive."

The twins, Kiri and Jax, phased through the fracturing floors, striking at the Ascendant's tendrils. "It anticipates our every move! It's not just strong—it's intelligent!"

The Marauder extended its golden tendrils to stabilize portions of the fractured nexus. "This is the culmination of the Void's evolution. Every attack you've survived, every fear you've faced—it's all fueled this. To defeat it, you must turn all your pain, memory, and trust into a weapon of pure will."

Kael stepped forward, raising the fragment. Its energy pulsed violently, resonating with every ally present. The hybrid monsters that had once been personal nightmares now coalesced into beams of concentrated light under their control. Memories of friends, family, victories, and losses flared in the fragment, reshaped into a harmonic lattice strong enough to pierce the Ascendant.

Elyra grasped Kael's arm, projecting her mind into the fragment alongside him. "We do this together. Everyone—focus!"

The Void Ascendant roared, an incomprehensible sound that reverberated through time, space, and thought itself. It lashed its fractal limbs at the team, crushing entire corridors and sending waves of psychic terror. But each attack was countered—Selara stabilizing reality, Thane and the twins slicing through the Ascendant's appendages, the Marauder holding collapsing nodes in place.

Kael raised the fragment high. "For everyone we've lost… for everyone we've saved!"

A blinding pulse erupted, tearing through the Ascendant. Its body screamed, fractals collapsing, memories unraveling, hybrid monsters dissolving into harmless sparks of light. Yet, even as it faltered, the Void's intelligence lingered—a warning, a promise, and a threat that it was not yet finished.

The nexus quaked violently, but a fragile calm returned. The team stood together, battered but alive, the Ascendant shattered into countless fragments of light and shadow.

Kael exhaled, looking at Elyra. "We survived… but this isn't over. It will come back—stronger, smarter."

Elyra nodded. "Then we'll be ready. Together, with every ally, every memory, and every secret we've ever carried."

Outside the nexus, the galaxy held its breath. Somewhere deep in the void, a shadow flickered—a reminder that the Void Ascendant's influence was not gone.

It had only been delayed.
