Chapter 24 - The Market of the Night Thread

Morning sunlight poured across Min Academy as students gathered in the central plaza. Today was special: the academy's vault had opened for a one-week market, offering rare threads and artifacts for sale. Banners fluttered with colors representing dozens of clubs, while students buzzed with excitement at the chance to gain extra thread points.

Kaito Fei strolled through the plaza with Liora by his side, his eyes scanning the stalls casually.

"The Night Thread," Liora said softly, pointing to a black-hued thread sealed in a crystalline container. Its aura was faint, elegant, and strangely alluring. "It's… it's perfect for you. But it's priced at 5,000 thread points."

Kaito's crimson eyes flickered briefly. He calculated silently: combined, the Nothing Club's points didn't even touch half that. Yet a small, almost imperceptible smile crossed his lips. "That's fine. I have a plan."

---

The Nothing Club gathered in their usual corner, a quiet shadow behind the market chaos. Ren Tatsuya, still half reclining in his chair, yawned. Mika and Rion were lounging lazily, drooling slightly over pamphlets about exotic threads.

Kaito addressed them without ceremony. "We're participating in the club competition."

Ren blinked. "Uh… you? Why?"

"To win the Night Thread," Kaito replied simply. "And dont worry you guys would be just watching ."

The other three exchanged glances. Extra points without extra work? They were in. Immediately.

"Fine," Ren said, stretching. "I'll watch. We'll cheer from here."

"Exactly," Kaito agreed, his eyes drifting skyward.

---

Meanwhile, students rushed between stalls, each club trying to impress with demonstrations:

The Elemental Society—led by their senior—set up fire and water weaving duels. Sparks danced in perfectly timed sequences, drawing gasps. Daren, just a member, tried to contribute, but was overshadowed by senior precision.

The Research Guild showcased inventions: floating devices, thread-powered automatons, chemical reactions in controlled bursts. Rin, the male member, tinkered nervously, unsure if his additions were enough to catch attention.

The Thread Orchestra performed a live piece with synchronized thread constructs, creating moving patterns that resonated with music, earning rounds of applause from the younger students.

All other clubs—from combat simulators to elemental experiments—worked tirelessly to impress, yet none could match the grand spectacle of innovation and precision the top three clubs displayed. The crowd voted eagerly, thread points at stake.

Through it all, Kaito and the Nothing Club sat quietly. Liora rested her head on his shoulder; he leaned back, eyes half-closed, fingers idly tracing patterns in the air. Ren muttered under his breath, "Figures… they're just napping."

Some students shot glares. "How can they just sit there?"

"They're missing the chance for points!"

Kaito didn't respond. Liora merely smiled faintly, brushing her hair behind her ear.

---

As noon approached, the top clubs had drawn most of the votes—but Kaito had only just begun. The air shifted subtly: clouds moved with an almost deliberate grace, sunlight bending as if guided by invisible hands. A soft drizzle began in one corner of the plaza, perfectly timed with a break in the sun. Within moments, a double rainbow appeared, stretching across the academy's towers.

Whispers spread immediately. "How… is that possible?"

"Those clouds… they're moving too perfectly."

"It's like a natural performance."

Kaito's lips curved faintly. He brushed the edge of his Karma Thread—just enough to nudge probability—and the skies responded. A second rainbow appeared, then a third, faint auroras shimmering in colors no one could name. The wind shifted, scattering sakura petals into intricate patterns that reflected sunlight, making the plaza look like a living mosaic of light and shadow.

Even Headmaster Ryuzen, standing at the edge of the crowd, stopped mid-step, eyes widening slightly. "I've… never seen such alignment of elements," he murmured under his breath.

Liora leaned closer to Kaito, eyes sparkling. "You're showing off again."

"Not showing off," he whispered. "Just… teaching them what luck looks like."

---

The crowd erupted, rushing forward with tablets and votes. Every eye was on the spectacle, gasping and pointing as clouds and light moved in impossible harmony. Students from the top clubs froze, realizing their carefully timed displays were overshadowed by a natural phenomenon they could not replicate.

Daren muttered, "I… I didn't think weather could—"

Rin's jaw dropped. "That's impossible…"

Kaito's display lasted barely five minutes. The moment it ended, he leaned back in his chair, satisfied, letting Liora brush her fingers against his arm. He hadn't broken a sweat, yet the plaza was buzzing with awe.

Ren Tatsuya yawned. "Well… that was impressive."

Mika and Rion nodded slowly, finally paying attention. "He did that… without even trying."

---

The votes poured in. Points were tallied for each club's performance, and for the first time, the Nothing Club—sleeping, calm, indifferent—received hundreds of votes simply for presence and style. Though the Night Thread remained out of reach for now, the impression left on the academy was unforgettable.

By evening, students chatting excitedly about the "impossible sky" they'd witnessed. Rumors spread: "I heard the Headmaster called it a once-in-a-millennium display."

Kaito, brushing off petals from his sleeves, glanced at Liora. "Next week, we'll see who gets the points."

She smiled, leaning closer. "And you'll be ready?"

He smirked faintly. "Always. But let them sleep while the storm brews."

The Nothing Club remained undisturbed, a small island of calm amid the academy's chaos, while the heavens themselves hinted at the power quietly wielded by a Rank 1 Weaver.
