Chapter 37 - Chapter 37: "Qingque Is Asleep"

Why had Fu Xuan suddenly become so gentle? What was this woman scheming?

Yu Xian quietly sat up in bed, then shifted backward until his back was against the wall before finally relaxing a little.

But the question still lingered in his mind, refusing to fade.

"Why did Fu Xuan react so strongly to me being hospitalized? Not only did she stay by my side for days while I was unconscious, but now that I'm awake, she's even personally feeding me congee... Tch, this doesn't seem like her usual style at all."

Especially since Yu Xian had already claimed the simulator's reward and equipped two wooden prosthetic arms. After a full night's sleep, his body had recovered considerably. In other words, he was perfectly capable of eating on his own without anyone's help. Although he hadn't thrown off the blankets to expose the prosthetics directly in front of Fu Xuan, the bulges under the covers almost explicitly hinted at their presence.

The night before, the area under Yu Xian's blankets had been flat, with nothing below his shoulders on either side. But this morning, it was noticeably full. Such an obvious change—anyone with functioning eyes could tell he had gained something extra. With a little thought, one could deduce that Yu Xian had been fitted with prosthetic arms.

Yes, regarding this point, even without using the Matrix of Prescience, given Fu Xuan's perceptiveness, she would undoubtedly have noticed.

Yet, even knowing he had prosthetics and could eat on his own, Fu Xuan had still resolutely picked up the bowl of congee and patiently, tenderly fed him—an entire bowl's worth. Tsk, How strange. How very strange.

It's almost even more than Qingque would—

???

Question marks suddenly appeared above Yu Xian's head.

Yu Xian remembered a crucial question.

"Master Diviner, where is Qingque? I remember she was sleeping with me yesterday," Yu Xian asked.

Upon hearing this question, Fu Xuan paused briefly, then casually set the empty congee bowl aside and spoke.

"Oh, you mean Qingque," Fu Xuan said with her back to Yu Xian, making it impossible for him to discern her current expression. "She's been utterly exhausted these past few days. Yesterday, she probably only managed to fall asleep after seeing you wake up, and once she did, she was out cold. Hmph..."

A hint of resignation tinged Fu Xuan's tone.

"I came to check on your recovery this morning and saw her curled up asleep beside you, so I sent her home to get some proper rest."

"Crammed into such a small space, her sleeping posture was all twisted, still in her clothes, no blanket, and pressing her body directly onto yours... That simply wouldn't do. If I'd left you two like that, you'd have woken up sore and numb all over—worse than if you hadn't slept at all."

"Ahem, so, as I just said, I sent Qingque home. Since she's tired, let her sleep peacefully in her own big bed. Rest is good for her. As for you, Yu Xian.." Fu Xuan glanced at Yu Xian, who had already sat up in bed, her lips twitching in an expression that was hard to read as either a smile or a frown, "I will take care of you for the time being."

At this point, Fu Xuan's tone suddenly turned cold, sharp and biting as glacial ice.

"Or perhaps You look down on me? Are you dissatisfied? Do you think I'm unworthy of caring for you?"

"No, no, of course not, Master Diviner." Yu Xian broke into a cold sweat and hurriedly shook his head. "I was just a bit curious... why you're being so kind to me all of a sudden."

Gulp, what a question!

Beneath her icy expression, a tiny, almost imperceptible whimper escaped Fu Xuan's throat.

To be honest, the change in Fu Xuan's attitude towards Yu Xian was primarily triggered by that dream. The brilliant moments Yu Xian displayed in the dream and the agony of his death were both too deeply etched in her mind, unconsciously driving the shift in her demeanor.

But this reason...

Fu Xuan blinked.

Even if she said it out loud, Yu Xian wouldn't believe it, right?

"What's this? Just because of a dream, the great Lord Diviner becomes all insecure and changes her attitude? How pathetic, heh heh heh..."

Her mind had already autonomously simulated the words Yu Xian would say. Fu Xuan shook her head.

If she really confessed the truth, her life would be over, wouldn't it?

Something like that... please, no!

With this thought, Fu Xuan could only lightly stamp her foot. The plump leg encased in patterned white stockings trembled slightly in the air. Though it was a leg of perfectly sculpted and alluring proportions, at this moment it quivered like a delicious jelly.

Ahem. Fu Xuan brushed it off, "I have always treated my subordinates equally, Yu Xian. You're overthinking it."

"Oh." Hearing this, Yu Xian nodded.

Only then did Fu Xuan breathe a sigh of relief.

Hmm, that's more like it. There is nothing improper between Yu Xian and me. At most, I simply appreciate him a bit more than others—nothing special about it.

Knock, knock, knock...

Just as the two were caught in this tension, the door to the hospital room sounded again. This sudden interruption conveniently gave Fu Xuan some room to maneuver, allowing her to finally relax a little.

"Hmm, who's knocking? Yu Xian, stay where you are. I'll go see."

Taking quick, light steps, she scurried to the door and opened it. In the next moment, a tall, slender, yet imposing figure came into Fu Xuan's view.

"Diviner Fu, you're here quite early."

Seeing Fu Xuan open the door, a flicker of surprise passed through Jing Yuan's eyes, but it was well concealed and vanished in an instant.

Jing Yuan smiled and waved at Fu Xuan, then composed himself and stepped into the hospital room.

"General." Seeing this, Fu Xuan tactfully pulled the door aside, making way for Jing Yuan. She only moved back to close the door after he had fully entered the room.

By then, Jing Yuan had already walked up to Yu Xian.

The white-haired general bent down slightly, his hawk-like eyes scanning Yu Xian, who sat on the bed.

After a moment, he withdrew his gaze and gave a satisfied nod.

Jing Yuan sat down and began to speak.

"I had heard from Diviner Fu earlier that the Divination Commission had produced an exceptionally talented young man. Seeing you today, the reputation is clearly well-deserved."

With just a glance, Jing Yuan had assessed Yu Xian's true state.

Although his combat power was still far inferior to that of an Emanator of the Hunt like himself, by observing the flow of destiny energy within Yu Xian—even now, when it was greatly depleted—his power could still be considered top-tier on the Luofu.

Good, good, good.

Fu Xuan truly hadn't deceived him. There was hope for the Luofu's future!

With this thought, joy surged uncontrollably in Jing Yuan's heart. He reached out his arm and directly grasped Yu Xian's wooden prosthetic hand.

"..."

It seems...

Something isn't quite right?

Suddenly recalling some unpleasant memories from the past, Jing Yuan's vision went dark.
