Chapter 27 - [27]: The News That Shook the World

Sengoku sat behind his desk, listening to Vice Admiral Tsuru's calm voice as she delivered her report. When she finished, he nodded slightly, his sharp eyes glinting beneath the soft light of Marineford's command office.

Without another word, Sengoku picked up the receiver of his Den Den Mushi and dialed a number. The snail blinked and slowly morphed to resemble the man on the other end.

A few seconds later, a weary, hoarse voice came through. "Fleet Admiral Sengoku… any instructions?"

Sengoku frowned. "Magellan, are you sick again?"

On the other side, Magellan's embarrassed chuckle echoed faintly. "Ah… I may have eaten something that didn't agree with me. But don't worry about that, sir!"

"Good. Because this is serious." Sengoku's tone hardened. "Garp and his escort team are bringing in Gol D. Roger. They're heading straight to you as we speak."

"W–what did you just say?" Magellan's voice cracked. "Roger? The Pirate King, Gol D. Roger?"

"That's right," Sengoku confirmed. "The real one."

For a long moment, silence filled the line. Then, somewhere within the echoing halls of Impel Down, a toilet flushed violently.

Magellan froze, eyes wide. "You actually caught him?!"

He shot to his feet so quickly that the stall door slammed behind him. His heartbeat thundered in his ears as the weight of Sengoku's words sank in. Gol D. Roger the Pirate King, the man who turned the entire world upside down was coming to his prison.

After a brief silence, Magellan straightened his back and spoke solemnly, his usual comedic tone replaced by steel. "Understood, Fleet Admiral. I'll have Impel Down locked down tighter than ever. No one will escape under my watch!"

Sengoku's voice softened. "Good. I'm counting on you."

When the call ended, Magellan let out a long breath of relief then froze mid-motion.

"…Wait," he muttered, glancing around the empty bathroom. "Did I… forget to wipe no, no, that's not important right now!"

Bursting out of the stall, he bellowed down the corridor, "Hannyabal! Gather every officer and guard in Impel Down! Nobody leaves their post! We've got a world-shaking event incoming!"

His booming voice echoed through the lower halls of the prison, rattling the very walls of the infamous underwater fortress.

Aboard the Fleet

Out in the Calm Belt, the sea was eerily still. Dozens of massive Marine warships sailed slowly across the mirror-smooth waters, forming a protective formation around one central vessel the Dog-Head Warship of the Hero of the Marines, Garp himself.

Upon hearing of Roger's capture, Sengoku had immediately dispatched additional ships to escort the fleet safely to Impel Down. The air was thick with tension, every officer aware that they were transporting the most dangerous man alive.

Below deck, Roger sat calmly in his cell, his wrists bound in seastone cuffs. Borsalino, Sakazuki, and Kuzan the three Marine powerhouses took turns keeping watch, their presence enough to deter even the boldest of pirates.

Above deck, Admiral Zephyr stood tall at the bow, scanning the horizon for threats. His expression was unreadable, but his instincts were razor-sharp. If anything dared to appear, it wouldn't last a second.

Meanwhile, Garp and Ezra D. Vale were sitting cross-legged at the front of the ship, sharing a bag of rice crackers as if nothing in the world could bother them.

"Come to think of it," Ezra mused between bites, "I've only ever seen Zephyr as an admiral since I joined the Navy. Why's that?"

Garp chuckled, wiping crumbs from his chin. "That's because the other two admiral seats are still empty."

"Empty?" Ezra tilted his head. "How come?"

"Well," Garp said, leaning back lazily, "Sengoku just got promoted to Fleet Admiral, and I've made it clear I've got no interest in taking an admiral's chair. So for now, those two seats are waiting for the right candidates."

He gave Ezra a knowing grin. "But it won't be long. After this mission, I expect Borsalino and Sakazuki to be promoted. They've earned it."

Ezra nodded thoughtfully. "So they'll become admirals, huh…"

Garp raised a brow. "What's that look for? You thinking of becoming one yourself?"

Ezra smirked. "Didn't used to, but lately… I've been giving it some thought."

Garp roared with laughter. "Now that's the spirit! Having a goal keeps you moving forward. But remember, rank alone doesn't make a man great. You'll need missions, achievements, and a reputation that echoes across the seas."

Ezra shrugged casually. "My name's already out there after the Whitebeard fight. Guess I'll work on the rest when I feel like it."

"Slow and steady, huh? Not a bad mindset." Garp grinned approvingly.

Ezra finished the last cracker, crumpled the bag, and tossed it into a nearby bin. His gaze drifted ahead to the enormous structure looming in the mist.

Even from miles away, the colossal iron gates radiated a suffocating pressure. The air grew heavier, colder, and more oppressive the closer they sailed. It felt like the sea itself recoiled from that place.

"So this is it," Ezra murmured. "Impel Down the Deep Sea Prison."

It was his first time seeing the legendary fortress in person. Its massive, blackened walls rose out of the water like the jaws of a beast waiting to devour anything that approached.

Inside Impel Down

The warship docked, and the escort team marched Roger down the gangplank.

Waiting for them at the entrance was none other than Magellan himself, his usual goofy demeanor replaced by solemn authority.

"Admiral Zephyr. Vice Admiral Garp." He saluted sharply.

Zephyr nodded. "Magellan. It's been a while."

"Let's skip the pleasantries," Sakazuki muttered, his tone cold as ever. "Let's get him inside."

With that, the group followed Magellan through the massive gates and descended deeper and deeper into the prison's depths. Ezra, Garp, and the three vice admirals accompanied them, while the rest remained outside to guard the perimeter.

Through each layer they passed, the temperature dropped, and the cries of the damned echoed from the walls. Finally, they reached the lowest level Level Six, the Infinite Hell.

Here, the air was thick with bloodlust. Each prisoner locked within these cells was a monster in human form, men whose crimes and power were said to rival legends.

"Huh? A new face?"

"No… that aura… is that Roger?!"

"Impossible! That fool said he'd conquer the Grand Line! How could he end up here?"

A chorus of mocking laughter filled the corridors.

Magellan's expression hardened. "Silence, you worthless scum!"

His voice boomed like thunder, and the laughter died instantly. None of the prisoners dared provoke him. Everyone knew Magellan's poison wasn't something you wanted to experience firsthand.

Leading the group to the innermost cell, Magellan unlocked the final gate.

"Gol D. Roger," he said gravely, "your journey ends here."

Roger smiled faintly and stepped inside without resistance.

Clang!

The heavy iron door slammed shut, sealing away the Pirate King forever.

The Marines collectively exhaled, tension finally easing from their shoulders. The mission was complete.

After exchanging farewells with Magellan, the escort fleet turned back toward Marineford.

Two Days Later

Morning sunlight streamed over the Grand Line. Seagulls carried newspapers across the skies.

In every port, tavern, and pirate den, one headline screamed louder than all others:

"THE PIRATE KING GOL D. ROGER CAPTURED!"

The world trembled.

From the East Blue to the New World, the news spread like wildfire. Kings and pirates alike froze where they stood, unable to believe their eyes.

For the first time in history, the man who ruled the seas the symbol of freedom itself was behind bars.

The age of legends had ended.

And the age of chaos was about to begin.
