Chapter 6 - Close to Death

Time passed and Dylan managed to overcome the second horde of monsters. Their numbers were larger than the first one which made the difficulty higher but he managed it with his new strength and speed.

They were still ranging from goblins to kobolds and some other little weak monsters that he didn't know about or seen before.

His senses became sharper and clearer, his body became more toned the more souls he absorbed, managing to get over the continuous fights that came to him.

The more he killed, the stronger he became which excited him and increased his hunger for more.

Maybe this contract with those six demons was a blessing in disguise?

Maybe not? Because since the beginning, it promised a strength far greater than anything he could imagine that with it he could stand at the top of the world, that what was written on that stone column back in the temple.

Anyway, that's of no concern now, currently, he will have to train and master each weapon so he could go back.

That's his goal as of now.

"But man, that look so disgusting, seeing a lot of monsters corpses here and there with some even had their brain matter splattered on the ground, eww." Dylan said as he looked at the scene around him.

The two hordes of monsters were killed at the same place making it feels like there was a war happened here.

But the truth was that it was caused by one single man named Dylan.

[You need to get used to it dear, as there will be more in the future~] hearing her words in her alluring voice, Dylan sighed.

"You are right." He said before he decided to train more on the basic swordsmanship moves as he felt that it wasn't yet mastered.

After all, it was the first time he held a sword in his hand and despite his current world being similar to SL, he wasn't awaken like others and was just ordinary human making him disappointed and got no way but to live his life normally with his mother.

But after being sucked to that strange temple and finding those six demons and making a contract with them, he felt like he was born a new because of the ability that the contract granted him to make him absorb the souls of those monsters he killed to get stronger and the feeling was just incredible that he wanted to feel it more.

But then he was reminded by that mature alluring voice of one of the six demons inside him that he should be careful to not become a monster himself as this hunger for power would only fasten the process and turn him to someone he didn't know.

Like someone said: When fighting a monster be careful to not become the monster itself.

Which he took note of. That's why he decided to put goals in front of him, one of them was to master all the six weapons and know everything about how to use them perfectly like the back of his hand.

....

After what felt like two or three hours, Dylan felt something coming his way at an incredible speed, as if a bullet was coming his way ready to pierce him and kill him on the spot.

This was due to his sharp senses that kept growing by fighting and absorbing souls.

He looked ahead to see a flying arrow coming at him with a high speed like a bullet, but due his now sharp and clear eye sight, he the could see its trajectory making it easy to dodge which he did as he sidestepped evading the arrow and making it hit a corpse on the ground.

Dylan narrowed his eyes as he looked at the being that shot the arrow just to find a goblin wearing light leather armor and riding a wolf.

It resembled those goblin riders from an anime he had seen before.

The goblin readied another arrow before he shot it but Dylan saw it clearly and dashed immediately toward it evading the arrow in the process narrowly which made the goblin sweat and nervous as it watched Dylan closing in.

But as he was about to cutt off its neck, Dylan's hair stood up straight to its ends before feeling a sense of dread and his senses screamed for him to get back and dodge which he did as he stopped in his tracks and jumped back.

BAAAAAM!!!

He looked at the huge wooden club that broke the rocky ground into tiny pieces and made a web like cracks on it.

Dylan felt sweat falling and a shiver ran down his spine as he felt that he was close to death right now, if he just was late by a moment, he would have been crushed to a meat paste by that huge wooden club.

Looking at the holder of this club, Dylan saw a huge troll with greyish skin and menacing eyes looking at him with deep hunger like the others.

'I wonder why all these monsters are looking at me like that? This deep hunger in their eyes as if I was the most delicious meal on the plate to be served. Did I miss a page or something?' Dylan thought as his eyes never left his opponents.

Then suddenly, the troll ran at him with a speed that seemed unnatural given his big size.

BUM!

BUM!

The ground shook due to his heavy steps before Dylan saw it in front of him in seconds before the troll waved his club aiming to crush Dylan with it, but with his sharp senses, he dodged by rolling on the ground, but suddenly, a whistling sound was heard as he caught a lambent object flying at him with the speed of a bullet aimed at his head.

Immediately, by instinct, he rolled again on the ground, dodging the arrow safely, but before he could think of standing up, he felt the ground shaking under him before seeing the club mere inches from his face.

'Shit!' he exclaimed inwardly before rising his sword and blocked the coming club.

DAAAAANG!!

'So heavy.' he thought as he felt a numbing sensation on his arm, then the goblin rider shot another arrow at this moment, putting Dylan's life on the line.

'I'm definitely dying if this arrow hit me, and damn this goblin's sniping skills are top notch, how the fuck that happened?' he said inwardly before with all his strength, he pushed the club upward before using the momentum and moved away from the arrow's range, making it hit the ground, he stood up immediately before with a swift slash of his sword, he cut one of the troll's legs off making him lose balance and hit the ground.

THUD!

GROOOOOOOOOOOOO!

"Too noisy." Dylan muttered before cutting off his head with a swift motion, killing the troll immediately, then his eyes moved to the goblin rider that looked shocked at him before, without waiting for a moment, Dylan threw the katana at him as if it was a spear, hitting the goblin rider in the heart directly, killing it too.

Then he ran with an incredible speed at the last monster, which was the wolf who was growling at him before lunging at Dylan aiming to bite his head, hit Dylan dodged swiftly and punched the wolf on the head with all his strength, breaking its skull entirely, killing it as well.

Afterwards, the souls of the three defeated monsters were absorbed automatically by Dylan nourishing his body and making him stronger.

"These two were the first to put me in a difficult situation because of their coordinated attacks that made it hard for me to attack or kill them, but upon using an opening, I managed to pull it off." He said analyzing the attack patterns of the that troll and the goblin rider.

[Good job dear~ you managed to survive this but don't let it get into your head, this is just the beginning~] he again heard the alluring voice of the same mature voice in his head.

"Hm, I won't, things like that will only lead to my death in the end, I should rather train and get stronger faster." Dylan muttered as he tightened his grip on the katana in his hand. After all, he saw several things like that in animes when the protagonist thought he was strong because he managed to get through a difficult battle.

[Fufu I'm waiting for the day when you will be able to see our true forms, dear Dylan~] the alluring mature voice said to him making him quite intrigued and curious about their true forms.

But then, remembering the statues, he doubted that.

"Wait, aren't those statues in the temple carved based on your true forms?"

[Absolutely not dear, they wer carved based on imagination because—]

[We didn't reveal out true forms to anyone who made a contract with either one of us.] Another voice said this time.

[No matter what, we won't show our true selves to anyone except—]

[You~]

"Me? Why me?"

[Because we have been waiting for your arrival for a long long time.] An energetic voice said but it had a hint of allure to it.

"Why waiting for me? You said the same back in the temple." Dylan asked because now he felt confused and questions began to appear in his mind without answers.

[No need to know now dear~ just focus on getting stronger and master all the six weapons.] The mature alluring voice said.

[It's not the time yet, don't be hasty.] A deep enigmatic voice said. It belonged to another mature demoness.

Hearing this, Dylan couldn't shake the feeling that there was something wrong from the beginning.

Since that sudden crack that appeared in the middle of the city, in front of him, and he felt something was weird.

It's as if it was... deliberate.

Anyway, thinking about it now won't get him anywhere, especially when they won't tell him.

They had the answers to all his questions but he had to wait first.

'Let's focus on our goal for now.' he thought before taking a deep breath and focused on the vast expanse of rocky lands ahead.

Then, he walked, aimlessly, without knowing where he was going as he didn't know the place either.

But that was better than staying in the same place and waiting for the monsters to come to him.

He needs to get stronger and fighting stronger monsters and killing them will make him strong faster. Weak monsters like the goblins and kobolds were a good start but as he advanced through the second horde, he felt his progress was slower.

Then when he killed that troll and the goblin rider, he felt like the first time he killed a monster, a rush of intoxicating pleasure invading his body.

And this led him to the thought: to get stronger faster, a challenge is a must.

'Just hope I don't die before I make it.'
