"I'm sorry," I said, my voice barely there. "What did you just say?"
The doctor didn't rush to repeat himself. He stood there, hands folded in front of him, it's like he knew that the news was very shocking to me.
"You're pregnant," he said again, slower this time. "About six weeks along."
I shook my head immediately, almost violently. "No. That's not possible."
My father looked between us, his brows pulling together. "Doctor, are you sure?"
"Yes," the doctor said calmly, without hesitation. "The blood work is very clear. There's no doubt."
I felt my chest tighten, all the emotions known to man had replaced any sense of normality I thought I had left.
"There has to be a mistake," I said. "Maybe the samples got mixed up. Maybe, maybe it's someone else's results."
"There isn't a mix-up," he replied. "We double-checked everything."
I laughed, but it came out very very hollow. I was panicking now.
"This doesn't make sense. How's that even possible?"
