"So, that's my new name. Artorias Regulus..." In my last life, I carried the name Arthur, given to me by my mother who was raised on Arthurian Legends growing up, and had fallen in love with them from a young age.
My father wasn't one to care about names—really he wasn't one to care about anything to do with me—so, my mother was the reason why I had grown up mostly learning not only about folklore legends but mythology and history too.
Though, as a seven year old, such things often went over my head. Not that I had forgotten about them.
After her passing, and my eventual turn to living on the streets, I used as much time as I had available to me to learn more about them in various libraries. It was a sort of way to honour the memory of the only person who had ever cared and loved me.
"...and those are my stats…I feel like I should be embarrassed. Seriously, what's up with all these small numbers?" I asked, narrowing my eyes.
I knew of course that it was probably because I had only just unlocked the System. Every story I had read started with the character having pitiful stats. But still, this was real life and after living for eighteen years, I expected both my levels and stats to be a little more.
"So, is there any explanation for what they all are?" A new screen appeared over the last at my question, displaying a brand-new set of information in glowing gold.

"Huh…that's a little different to the stories I read." I muttered, noting the embarrassingly low Charisma stat and the Energy Points. As far as I can remember, the stories that I had read as a child never showed either of those stats.
Really, I would have much rather gone without either of them. Energy Points meant I would have to be careful with my every move in a fight or risk becoming exhausted, which would only lead to my death.
My Charisma on the other hand…well, as someone whose been a street urchin my entire life, I didn't really care what people thought of me. But, for the sake of keeping all my stats balanced, and no other reason whatsoever, I'll probably try and level it up as much as I can.

"Shut up, I have no idea what you mean, figment of my imagination." I grumbled. Really, what were the chances that I would not only live to experience the afterlife but also reincarnate and have a System that came from various famous novels and books.
Yeah, no.
The only explanation that I could believe right now was that I was currently either hallucinating, or something within me had broken so hard from glimpsing at that thing in the darkness, that I had subconsciously created a way to cope with my new reality.
Really, nobody would be as calm as I felt right now if they went through the same things that I had.

"Sure, might as well see how deeply my psyche has shattered." I snorted, getting a little more comfortable in the sand. Really, after this I'd need to have a good look at where I was.
Right now, all I knew was that I was at some beach, with an ocean that had no end in sight and a forest behind me that was unnaturally dark. For now, I wasn't going to think too much about it.
'One thing at a time.' I told myself, watching as the screen shifted and changed to show a new display screen.
