Chapter 16 - PART 1: Chapter 9 [Dormmates Reconnection]

Five years ago…..

Narrator

Dayo was inside his study room, reading a book when Adira entered.

He checked on his wristwatch. "Baby, you know I don't eat late. What's holding dinner?"

Dinner was not something that mattered to Adira at the moment. She was more than eager to share her excitement with her husband.

"Darling, guess what?" She kept grinning. Her enthusiasm written all over her face as she went to sit on her husband's lap.

"Am very bad at guessing. Tell me what it is." He said, closing the book.

"Well," She wrapped her arms around his neck. "Sharon's date just arrived and he took her out for dinner."

Dayo was like 'Really?' for a moment. Then he said, "How sure are you, Adira? Those two are just innocent kids, flirting over each other. I don't think there's anything serious about them."

Serious about them? Adira pouted her lips like a grumpy baby. "But you told me the other day that she has a boyfriend. I even saw the look in his eyes, darling. He loves her."

"His?" Dayo was trying to fish out her exact detail.

"Jide, of course." She shrugged her shoulders.

Dayo was surprised that his bestie's son was here tonight. "Jide was here? And you didn't invite him over for dinner?"

Adira frowned. "Babe, he insisted on taking Sharon out on a date. We can't put asunder in whatever they're having, right?"

Dayo nodded, rightly. "That's true." He adjusted his glasses.

"Babe?"

"Yes?"

She played her fingers in his hair, seductively. "What do you think about Sharon and Jide in the future?"

"Well," he brushed the tip of his nose. "I see East meeting West."

Adira burst into laughter. That really got her. Dayo loved her smile as he joined her laughter too. "You can't be serious, are you? Two different dialects… It's kind of weird, you know. It's just like the moon meeting the sun which is totally out of point."

"My love," He wrapped his arms around her. "Nothing is out of point and nothing is weird when it comes to love." He said. "Remember how we fell in love?"

Adira blushed. Whenever he reminds her of their love journey, she always feels butterfly in her stomach. "Stop flattering me."

He chuckled softly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "For me, it was love at first sight. I couldn't wait to introduce you to my family. I was smitten by your beauty." He whispered the last sentence. Which made her laugh.

"Okay, let's just say, you had your way of getting me, right?"

"Yeah."

"Yeah, yeah."

They chuckled.

Adira thought of something for a moment. Something she has been eager to ask since morning. "Babe? Can I ask you something?"

"Come on, sweetheart. Stop making me look like a bad guy. You know you can ask anything you want, even if it has to do with my life."

She smiled sweetly, a light chuckle escaped her mouth. "I will never be selfish to ask for your life, darling. I just wanted to remind you about your mother's remembrance party that would be coming up soon."

To be serious, Dayo was not liking the idea of his wife bringing up the topic of his late mother, Ronke Adekunle Coker Ayomide into their sweet moments.

He really wasn't liking it because to start with; His mother was never a good mother to her children. She never cared about him and his younger brothers while growing up as a kid.

All she cared about was how to cause nauseous, problems everywhere, cheat on her husband and do all sorts of nonsense.

Although, she neglected them, she still made them know that she was still their mother.

Dayo and his younger brothers had to grow up strong for themselves. Even though they had a mother at that time, it looked like they never had.

Though, they all lived in the same roof with her, they didn't felt the sense of motherly love at all.

She was a real time rebel in the family. And that led to her early death timing.

When Adira saw the irritated look on her husband's face, she knew she was pushing. "Come on, darling. We're just going there for last respect—"

"Can you even hear yourself?" He whined. "Go to who's remembrance party? That daughter of a devil? Babe, have you forgotten how she conspired with your late twin sister just to destroy our love? Have you?"

"Sweetheart," she really knows how to soothen him. "I haven't forgotten any of it. Not even one bit." She sighed. "But to eer with human and to forgive is divine, baby—"

"I have forgiven them a long time ago and am still trying to forget about the story, okay?" He retorted, hastily. He hates the fact that his wife was too softhearted and his own heart was made of stone. "I can't promise you that we're going."

"But—"

"No if's or but, you hear me?" He was getting annoyed. He didn't want to have this conversation again.

"Felix, your dad called me to talk about it. He—"

He wasn't giving her any room for explanation. "Dad doesn't have a problem. I'll talk with him tomorrow. So for now, shut up and let's go downstairs for dinner."

She knew there was no point arguing with him. Because arguing with him was like beating the rock to speak.

She shook her head understandably and forced a bitter smile on her face.
