Chapter 15 - Chapter 15 – The Call of Forgiveness

The first light of dawn filtered through the curtains of Olivia's temporary refuge. Peter's mother was already bustling in the kitchen, preparing breakfast, the comforting aroma of toast and tea filling the room. Olivia sat at the table, tracing the rim of her cup, her mind heavy with the previous day's events.

Peter, sitting across from her, offered a small smile. "You okay?"

"I… I will be," she replied, her voice uncertain. She took a deep breath. "It's just a lot to take in."

Peter nodded quietly. "I know. But you're strong, Olivia. You handled everything yesterday better than I could."

Meanwhile, miles away, Amelia sat alone in her office, the fluorescent lights casting sharp edges across her tired face. The weight of her choices pressed heavily on her shoulders. She had spent the night replaying the confrontation with Olivia, the pain in her daughter's eyes, the raw honesty of her words.

She picked up her phone, dialing John's number. Her fingers trembled as it rang.

"Hello?" John's voice was cautious, wary of what this call might bring.

"John," Amelia's voice cracked, "I… I need to talk."

John's expression softened, though no one was there to see it. "Amelia… I've been waiting to hear from you."

"I'm… I'm sorry," she whispered. "For everything. For leaving without explanation, for letting my work take over, for hurting Olivia… and you."

John's chest tightened, memories of anger and frustration washing over him, but beneath it, he could hear the genuine remorse in her voice. "Amelia… we've both hurt each other, but I've been waiting for you to see it too."

She swallowed, tears rolling down her cheeks. "I see it now. And I don't want to lose what we've built… what we still can."

John exhaled slowly. "Then come home. Let's talk. Let's fix this, together."

Amelia nodded, a shaky smile forming through the tears. "I'll come home. Thank you… for waiting, for understanding."

Meanwhile, back at Peter's home, Olivia was sipping tea when her phone buzzed. It was a message from her father: Your mother called. She wants to come home. She wants to make things right.

Olivia felt a mixture of relief and hesitation. She looked at Peter, who gave a reassuring nod. "Go to her," he said softly. "She's ready. And maybe… maybe you can be too."

She nodded, taking a deep breath. The tension in her shoulders eased slightly. For the first time in weeks, the fear of loss was met with the promise of reunion.

Later that afternoon, Amelia returned to the Owens' home. The front door opened to reveal her, slightly disheveled from a long day at work but radiant with emotion. John stepped forward instinctively, and for a moment, they just stared at each other. Then, without a word, they embraced tightly, holding on as if to never let go but what happened after was unexpected.
