The next day at school, Yu Lin kept asking about Sarah Ruan and Aria Lang's interaction. Deeming it unusual.
Aria Lang but her lips in silence, looking uncomfortable to speak on the topic. She wasn't deliberately hiding the truth from Yu Lin. She just didn't know how to say it. The situation seemed so preposterous that she herself hadn't entirely accepted it.
Yu Lin saw her embarrassment and did not keep on pursuing the matter further. She knew that although Aria looked usually cowardly, she was actually very stubborn especially recently. It was useless to interrogate her about something she didn't want to talk about. "Forget it. Anyway, it's not disadvantageous for you to be friends with Sarah Ruan!"
It's fine as long as you don't suffer a loss, thought Yu Lin.
Aria hummed and nodded. To express her gratitude she shared half of her breakfast with Yun Lin.
Yun Lin was happy and accepted it without further thought munching on the sandwich.
At noon, Aria Lang quickly tidied her desk and moved with the after-school crowd to go and hide in the library. Her phone had been left in the drawer of her classroom. She had actually done it on purpose, as she didn't want to see any more messages belonging to Sarah Ruan. She wanted to put him off until she gave up willingly on her own.
She used that as a silent rebellion, hoping the other party would understand her intentions, and be merciful in letting her go.
While doing her homework, the hours passed quickly. Aria eventually left the library as she hadn't eaten lunch and her stomach was protesting in hunger. She turned towards the cafeteria, bought two burgers and ate them on the way back to class.
As she climbed up the stairs, she was startled by what she saw in the corridor.
At the entrance if her class, a tall and powerful youth was leaning against the white wall. The loose school uniform could not conceal her well proportional body. One long leg was straightened while the other was slightly bent, indicating a waiting posture.
Aria Lang was taken a back. Wondering how long she had been waiting there for her.
As if noticing the stare, the youth turned her head and met Aria Lang's eyes. At her expression, Aria Lang's heart throbbed. Perhaps Sara Ruan's eyes were too clear, but she could easily read the sadness that deleted by in those eyes. Like a loyal dog that had just seen it's owner after being abandoned.
Aria averted her gaze. She felt a little scared but also a bit regretful. It seemed like she had really hurt her.
Sarah Ruan looked at Aria Infront of her a few steps away, her eyes feel on the half eaten burger in her hands for two seconds. Only then did she drop her gaze and turned to leave.
At that moment, Aria realised Sarah had been carrying some takeout. There was a trash can in a corner of the corridor.
When Sarah Ruan passed by it, she threw the cold takeout away. The person she had bought it for was already eating, it was no longer needed.
Back in her own class. Sarah who had not slept a wink, coming straight back to school from a mission just to see her only to be disappointed, flew into a rage and kicked over her chair.
Aria back in her class checked her phone. There were four messages sent by Sarah at noon.
'Baby where are you?'
'Quickky reply to my texts. Once the food gets cold, it wouldn't be nice to eat.'
'You don't want to eat with me?'
'I'll wait for you anyway.'
After reading through all the messages, Aria Lang's mood became gloomy.
She really didn't think Sarah Ruan would be so persistent.
Originally they had not interacted at all. Then, out of nowhere she had said that she wanted to pursue her. It it was anyone else, would they have accepted it immediately?
Distressed, Aria Lang slumped on her desk and used a book to cover her face.
Her mind was filled with images of Sarah Ruan's sad departure. She was obviously a very proud person but was still willing to reveal the soft and hurt side of her.
It seemed like her own heart was softening as well.
"Aria Lang."
Suddenly being called out while zoning out , Aria Lang hurriedly lifted her head and looked at the teacher who was staring at her with a frown.
She immediately sat upright to better pay attention and emptied her mind, not daring to think about it further. The softness that had started to take root in her heart also disappeared altogether.
She only later recalled the matter when she was lying in bed after her shower that night.
She picked up her phone and opened Sarah Ruan's WeChat page. The last message was "I'll still wait for you" at 01: 20 pm.
She was hesitating as she typed and deleted, always lacking the courage to send the message. She felt extremely fretful and rolled around, hugging her pillow.
On the other end, Sarah Ruan was also staring at her phone. She had already been staring at the screen for nearly an hour but they were still now signs of activity.
Finally she lost her cool and sent two words: Aria asleep?
Aria was surprised and immediately replied: I thought you were angry.
Followed by: Sorry, I left my phone in class.
After that she really didn't have anything more to say.
Sarah Ruan stared at the screen if her phone a few minutes more. She knew that Aria was not interested in her, she had made it clear that she was into boys, although she didn't know why she had retracted that message, she was still happy and when she said she would consider it instead, she treated it as a spark of hope.
She thought that meant that she had a chance, but she didn't expect it to be so out of reach. Putting her phone down, she leaned against the truck, closed her eyes to rest for the impending jobs she had taken up.
