Chapter 9 - Unnamed

Chapter 9-Devit vs. the Unknown

This place didn't feel like where I had been before. The monsters here weren't easy to defeat. They were still not very smart, but it was helpful that they didn't roam in groups. Otherwise, they would have overpowered me quickly.

System: You have 29 days remaining.

Alright… 30 days here is equal to 1 day outside. The kids shouldn't get bored without me. The Elves are watching over them. I need to focus on surviving here because ordinary weapons won't affect these monsters.

System: You have a gift. You can choose a weapon from it. With this weapon, you can defeat many monsters. Which will you take?

Spear, bow, sword.

— Give me the sword. I know how to use it, — I said.

System: Sword acquired.

This weapon was unlike ordinary weapons. Now, let's face the monsters.

I tried killing one… Wow, this sword is incredible! It was as smooth as cutting butter. But the downside was that the wielder also had to be above the sword's level. Every bone in my body ached.

System: Level up.

I leveled up and continued clearing the area. Three more monsters were ahead, and I would defeat them too.

System: Level up.

The pain kept increasing. I requested medicine from the System.

System: Medicine acquired.

For 15 straight days, I didn't stop fighting, leveling up continuously. Eventually, the medicine lost its effect, and there were only 15 days left. Finally, my patience ran out, but I had managed to complete the task.

System: Task complete. Homecoming initiated.

I found myself in bed, wondering when I had arrived here.

— Are you alright? — a voice asked.

The children saw me, rushed to me, crying before falling asleep. They hadn't been able to sleep properly while worrying about me.

I picked them up and took them to eat. At the same time, I knew I had to visit a guild.

— Hello, I'm Devit. Do you have any tasks for me?

Guild Master: There are no suitable tasks for you now, but your name has become well-known. Even the Queen has heard about you.

— What? My name has reached the kingdom already? — I thought in surprise.

What should I do now? I need to approach them before too much about me is revealed. For now, I should return home.

---

At the Royal Palace

King: There's very little information about Devit. We don't know where he is or what he's doing. He recently registered with the guild and rarely comes into town. He always heads toward the Dark Forest. We are still gathering more information.

Queen: Alright, continue monitoring him.

King: Who is this person? He can defeat over ten demons and enter the Dark Forest. I'm very intrigued. One day, I'll meet him, Devit.

Ah… I'm a little hungry. Time to head home. I have a place in mind—a unique dome with a hidden chamber. From the Dark Forest side, my home is invisible. Even if someone comes close, it only looks like a normal house. Perfect. No one will find me, my children, or the Elves.

I returned to the children.

— Are you all well? You've been good. I brought treats for everyone. Here, take them.

The Elves thanked me once again for helping us and the children.

— No need to thank me. I enjoy doing good.

Evening came. Time for everyone to eat.

I reflected on the day and realized how much my power had grown.

System Status:

Strength: 5000

Speed: 5000

Endurance: 7000

Intelligence: 5000

System: Compare with Yago.

You:

Strength: 5000

Speed: 5000

Endurance: 7000

Intelligence: 5000

Yago:

Strength: 20000

Speed: 20000

Endurance: 25000

Intelligence: 10000

He has grown far stronger. He's training to get stronger, but in our last fight, I had temporarily matched his power. If we had fought fully, he would have won. That means I couldn't beat Yago yet, and there are even stronger demons out there. I must continue growing stronger and eventually reach the kingdom. I'll think about that tomorrow. For now… I need to rest.
