Parker's POV
"HOLD THE LINE!" Parker's voice cracked against the thunderous roar of combat. His throat burned raw, but he forced the words out again, pushing every ounce of authority into his command. "DAWN IS BREAKING! HOLD THE LINE!"
The second night of the beast assault had surpassed the horror of the first. Even as morning light crept across the horizon, the creatures fought with increased savagery. Their eyes blazed with murderous hunger, claws and fangs slicing through steel armor like it was paper. Warriors battled desperately at the defensive walls, the air choked with the stench of blood, smoke, and decay.
"Anderson!" Parker shouted, catching sight of the seasoned fighter stumbling as he swung his massive axe. "Help Allen! Move!"
Allen was supporting a fallen soldier whose arm hung useless, blood streaming down his side and pooling in the snow. Two men rushed to pull the wounded man to safety, but another beast charged straight at them.
